I am enjoying life, new interests and new direction with our new business, Shasta Athletic Club. But our move and all of its transitions, cost me. Although I lost weight over the last year, my weight is back on now.

In June we moved across country, from East Coast to Northern California, went to work on our business, and I changed my thyroid meds. Long story short, I have added all my weight, 15 lbs. back on. Despite my efforts to work out consistently, log food, stay within calorie levels, as well as adjusting my thyroid meds, I have not lost weight.

I love to walk, hike, swim and bike. Sometimes I kayak with my hubby (not us in the background pic, but it captures my attitude). In addition to these, I have been training on GTS Gravity Training Systems, a slant board with cable system that works by using your body weight as resistance. I plan on adding swimming and stretching to my light day's cardio workouts in January.

I read a great article in Sparkpeople about overcoming obstacles. Here is a quote from author Nancy Howard worth remembering: "It is the journey of overcoming obstacles that defines who we are and who we are meant to be." ("Running Down a Dream: Overcoming Obstacles") I wholeheartedly agree, Nancy and that is how I plan to adjust my attitude toward making permanent changes: I will let the obstacles I face become character-builders instead of becoming frustrated with my weight gain.

When dealing with physical set-backs, I want to use these challenges to refocus and strengthen my will to persevere. What that means is I have learned not to get bent out of shape and angry about my body's timetable. Change takes time. I can make good choices and reap the benefits, if I don't frustrate myself with impatience.

Right now I am up-dating my page and what I wrote last year is encouraging me to keep going despite my current setback. This is what I had written about last March: " March was all about...perseverence. I had sickness, physical set-backs and IBS half of the month. But I still took small steps forward." That means I can keep taking small steps forward now.

Here are some of the things I accomplished in March, 2010 (with a status check):
~Streaks of massive daily SP points (55-85 pts., I work now so don't get on expect to track food and check in with friends);
~Consistent daily calorie range 1200-1400; (have been at 1540 calories per day...I think I will cut back 200 calories from today forward)
~Fitness minutes done on daily basis, walked and rode my bike...up to 15 miles the second week& 60 min. every day);
~Drank massive amounts of water: 100-150 oz. daily; (need to up the oz. here too, currently at 70 per day)
~Stayed on target with my nutritional supplements, ( have done very well in this area);
~ With The Buddy System Team I completed my challenge, (just completed my Nov. challenge);
~I finally weaned myself off caffeine; (stayed off caffeine except for occassional chocolate treat)
~Researched nutrition for my nutritional blog series...and I learned a lot. (Still do research, now doing journaling about fitness to reset my goals and get a new attitude.)

As I write this in December, 2010, I am taking courage and comfort in what I accomplished and am renewing my commitment to continue forward. Last year's experiences will provide me with insights for the future.

I have strengthened my resolve to climb the next mountain...in writing about life, in seeking God's presence, in shining my light. Who knows what He has in store?

My Goals:
Goal weight is 128 lbs. I started at 145 & have lost about 16 pounds. During March I stablized at 129...
From April thru Sept. 2010 I gained back my weight. Now I am setting new goals for the new year with a focus on fitness in several categories.
Elliptical, stretching, Gravity System, pilates and biking are good for fitness minutes.

My husband is a racquetball champion and we operate a large fitness club in Redding, Ca. Together we are recreational facility consultants to independent owners. My interests are bicycling, reading literary fiction, memoirs; writing the same and discovering what God has next for me. I am a BIG Duke Blue Devil basketball fan!! I am a 5 year, Stage 4 breast cancer survivor.

So great to hear from you. I too have been busy and on the site much less. I check in briefly almost daily, but not nearly as much time catching up, or logging, I'm afraid. Spring is slow to come here, but there are hints...

I don't really have a formal stability ball workout; I just do some of the exercises with it I learned in physical therapy while I am watching tv.
