About Me

I lived in Sri Lanka until I was 27. The past two years I was a graduate assistant at Ball State University’s Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology. Growing up I spent time with four generations of my family every day so I got to observe the aging process up close and personal. All of my grandparents are or were very active and healthy into their mid-90s. To me that is normal aging.

When I started my graduate studies, the fresh, nutritious unprocessed foods that always had been available to me were not readily available. I ate more and more processed foods and become a processed person. I gained 23 pounds in 90 days eating 50% less calories than I was used to. Then I lost my energy and became quite ill. My doctor figured out that it was the processed food that I had been eating. The produce was not as fresh as what I got from my garden or the market. I still had low energy and found it hard to exercise at my former intensity levels. I was having trouble digesting even rice.

Once I started putting whole, unprocessed foods back into my stomach, I started feeling better. Because of the increased energy that I had, I started to meditate again. That helped me reduce my stress even more. Next thing I knew I was exercising like I did before I became ill. Wow! And, it was such a simple solution – getting back to basics.

I want to help others learn about what I discovered about the miracle of the body wanting to heal itself. I had a chronic condition and reversed it by (1) eating a whole foods diet, (2) practicing skilled relaxation daily, and (3) doing exercise which is appropriate for me.

During my graduate work in gerontology I saw many wonderful people who were experiencing degeneration and chronic illness even though they were taking many pharmaceuticals. I realized that many of these people had become processed people. That was not the norm that I experienced in Sri Lanka. There is a health care crisis here in the United States. Health care costs and health insurance articles are on the front page and cover of many newspapers and news magazines every day. People want to be happier and healthier. I discovered there is a niche that I can offer people that want to be better stewards of their own health. They just need the information and encouragement to choose better health. I believe that beginning is half-done. I think, ultimately, that health is an individual responsibility.

Maybe you know someone who wants to go from tired to terrific, to stay sharp all day, to feel upbeat and optimistic, and to be active again. Guaranteed! My wellness and gerontology training and practice have taught me that the best way to avoid and resolve many chronic health conditions is to be too healthy to have them.
I’m on a global mission.

Read your blog on "Secrets to Success". Also watched the videos. Very insightful. It is amazing what the power of thought can do. When ever I had a negative thought it was so much against my grain...(so to speak). Now I know why and the answer. Thanks for the info and I know that I can use what I learned daily with positive, or should I say "affirmative" vibrations. emoticon

Hi! Loved reading about you in your introduction. I, too, believe that your body wants to heal itself and how "clean" foods can help achieve that. I've heard so many stories of how people with heart disease and diabetes have been able to reverse their illnesses and even stop taking their medications just by changing their eating and exercise habits. Thanks for offering support. Personal experience outrules textbooks anyday! :)
You look great and glad to hear that you got better. Take care.

Thanks for your encouragement!

I made an A in my on my Special Occasion speech - a Eulogy!

The Finals will be a speech to persuade -- wish me luck!

Where is Ball State University’s Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology?

I worked with Seniors for 2 years as a manager in a retirement community -- I really enjoyed working with them!
