I am married (26 years) and a mother of a totally awesome 19 year old daughter. As I make my transition to a healthier life, it is my greatest desire to help her avoid the struggles I have incurred. Footnote: I used to be defined by my conditions such as fibromyalgia, diabetes, depression. I am now working to improve that attitude. I am trying to be no longer defined by those condions, but be defined by Me, a person who is worth something and worth knowing. I have been gone from Spark People for the last three years, but have continued on my weight loss journey. During that time I have lost 65 pounds and and changed my diet and started to exercise regularly (mainly walking.) After my grandfather died this November, and then my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer in January, I feel into a state of despair and the weight started to come back. Now I have resolved that sitting around feeling sorry for myself isn't going to help Richard or me. So I have starting eating better again and walking and my daughter and I were able to qualify for free membership to a gym for a few months. With your help I am hoping to get off the weight I gained and get back to heading to my goal weight.

My Goals:
1-Healthier Lifestyle 2-Lose 50 pounds 3-Continue Exercising
My Program:
I lost 65 pounds when I had access to a gym and personal trainer. Plus I used the nutrition planner through SparkPeople. Now my job has reduced my hours and I will be forced to find a new job and the possibility of me being able to afford a gym has been taken off the table. Plus I walked 2-3 times a day (5 days a week) for a total of 3-4 miles a day. Now I will only have the option off walking and Wii. I know walking is beneficial, but that gym sure would have helped.
Personal Information:
I moved to North Dakota over 25 years ago when my dad was transferred and absolutely fell in love with it. It is "small town" even in our largest towns. Lower crime rates, good jobs, simple/old fashion values. We have winter nine months of the year, "but that keeps the riff-raff out." You do eventually get used to the weather. It is a great place to raise my daughter.
Other Information:
Since my husband got sick, I have regressed to my former love...the TV show, Emergency! I loved the show as a kid back in the 70s, but now I am totally impressed with what it has done for the world of medicine. The show was not only entertaining, but also help got the paramedic program started throughout the country! Now Randy Mantooth (Johnny from the Show) continues to serve as an advocate for paramedics/EMTs and speaks on their behalf around the country and Canada.
