I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest most of the year, but often head to south Texas or Arizona for some of the cold winter months. We have 3 living children, 2 DGSs, ages 12 and 9, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our first great-grandchild, a girl!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good for that. So, in the interest of preserving my replaced hips, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the grandsons for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!

My Goals:
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and exercising.

My Program:
My program is also simple:
1. I will eat within my daily calorie range and abstain from evening eating and snacking.
2. I will eat at least 5-7 freggies each day.
3. I will eat 3+ protein servings daily, including at least two dairy.
4. The remainder of my calories will come in the form of carbs.
5. I will include strength and stretching exercises in my daily routine.
6. I will participate in the Silver Sneakers and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week.
7. I will continue to exercise a minimum of 10 min/day on days with no scheduled activities.
8. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 5% Spring Challenge, as well as my team activities.

Other Information:
I love to read, do genealogy, spend as much time as possible with our grandsons and new great-granddaughter. We just moved to a condo last spring, so we're adjusting to having no outdoor responsibilities. We've rented a city garden spot for this year and we're looking forward to having plenty of fresh veggies!

HI Jeannie,,, please excuse any mistakes made. I am not reallly on Sparks right now,, and won't be til Tuesday,,, here's hoping i"ll make more sense by then,,, if not,,, we'll have to expand that.

On Monday I woke up extremely exhausted,,, felt like I was in a bad drunk,,,, and my stomach was flipping out,,, thn my speech went into stuttering ,,, my legs went very wobbly. So I called 911,,,, suspecting possibly another TIA or I am on 3 meds that I could be reacting to,,, so I bought them with me. It did turn out to a med. I can walk again,,,, the affects are my speech ,,,, I am stuttering ,,, I start the day off fine,,, than my thoughts start to stutter,,, than my mouth starts in. the other thing,, is my memory which has already been sketchy,,, from the car accident many years ago,,,b4 Sparks. It's even worse now, hoping it'll bounce back very soon.

I am THRILLED,, no there are NO WORDS to describe how ECSTATIC I feel for him. When I m on the waiting room at the wound clinic it's a "If you tell me about your wound , I'll tell you about mine." I've learned a LOT from what others have been going through ! SO EXCITING that Richard is almost healed ! Please do a snoopy dance for me ! WOWZERS !! What a RELIEF !!! CONGRATTERS to you both ,, you are ALMOST there ! I'll find out within the next 2 to 4 weeks how my foot holds up. The wound IS healed,,, now to see if it WILL STAY healed,,, I'd LOVE it if it does !! LOVE the small freedom I have now. WOOHOOO LET"s PARTY GAL !

I to, have things I could do but one is in the running mode sometime we have to get off the merry-go-round. I did some laundry and vacuuming, made a tuna salad for us to enjoy Otherwise a nice intermittent sunny day. Some places around us apparently had rain and strong winds. We didn't, and when they talked about the 50 MPH winds beginning to die down, we looked at each other as our trees weren't even moving! Good for us! Have a wonderful evening!
