I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest most of the year, but often head to south Texas or Arizona for some of the cold winter months. We have 3 living children, 2 DGSs, ages 12 and 9, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our first great-grandchild, a girl!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good ...

I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good for that. So, in the interest of preserving my replaced hips, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the grandsons for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!

My Goals:
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and exercising.

My Program:
My program is also simple:
1. I will eat within my daily calorie range and abstain from evening eating and snacking.
2. I will eat at least 5-7 freggies each day.
3. I will eat 3+ protein servings daily, including at least two dairy.
4. The remainder of my calories will come in the form of carbs.
5. I will include strength and stretching exercises in my daily routine.
6. I will participate in the Silver Sneakers and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week.
7. I will continue to exercise a minimum of 10 min/day on days with no scheduled activities.
8. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 5% Spring Challenge, as well as my team activities.

Other Information:
I love to read, do genealogy, spend as much time as possible with our grandsons and new great-granddaughter. We just moved to a condo last spring, so we're adjusting to having no outdoor responsibilities. We've rented a city garden spot for this year and we're looking forward to having plenty of fresh veggies!

Jeannie, that's GREAT Richard s foot is FINALLY healing!! WOW what a LONGGGG road it's been. No doubt you are both very encouraged!!

On Wednesday I hopefully will find out the next step for my foot. Last week they thought it may of been infected. Since they haven't called,,, thankfully it must not be. At the Wound Clinic they said it should of been healed. They had a new set of XRays done. They r hoping there's hardware left in it. But, I saw my regular foot Dr yesterday she assures me there's not. So I'll find out where we go from here.

We still miss you. U had come up in conversation tonight so I m pleased to see your comment on my page

Hon I'm saddened to read below you've lost ur Mom. Mine has been for about 25 years. U will hear her words when you quote the funny little things she did say to ur family.. this brings me comfort. May you take comfort as ur heart starts to heal. As you know a Mother, Daughter relationship is special.

I am very sorry for your loss, Jeannie! I know you will be very busy for the next several months taking care of everything.
After three cortisone injections, my back is feeling pretty good but they told me it would only last for about 5 months. I hope it lasts a lot longer than that! I am a little disappointed with my cataract surgery. I don't need glasses to drive but I do need glasses to read! For a retired librarian, that it not good! The doctor said I have to use cheap reading glasses until the end of February before I can get prescription glasses. Evidently, you are supposed to wait 90 days after the cataract surgery before you have an eye exam to get glasses!

I can imagine the time you need to get all the affairs dealt with for your mom. It does take some emotional strength as well. Roger lost his mom 11 months ago and we all worked at getting paperwork and issues taken care of before we headed back down to the RGV not knowing that a week later my mom would fall. Glad we haven't had to get her affairs done as it will be a a little difficult with a farm involved. She is maintaining and still very stubborn but still around us. I think of you often and hope you are doing well with your loss. I keep you in my prayers as well. God bless.

You are right on with Razz Ma Tazz. This group is from a HS here that also puts on a musical annually. This afternoon we saw yet another wonderful show of "How to Succeed in Business". Excellent although rather long which is what needed to be but we hardly knew Act 1 had gone 1.75 hr's. The kids that do the musicals are part of a group that come into the parks and do a 45" performance of song and dance. The hall is full when they come in. Very talented kids. Some go into some form of music after graduating. Kind of an upper today. Had another couple with us as well as mom and stopped at KFC for dinner and a nice visit before returning to the park.
