I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest most of the year, but often head to south Texas or Arizona for some of the cold winter months. We have 3 living children, 2 DGSs, ages 12 and 9, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our first great-grandchild, a girl!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good for that. So, in the interest of preserving my replaced hips, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the grandsons for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!

My Goals:
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and exercising.

My Program:
My program is also simple:
1. I will eat within my daily calorie range and abstain from evening eating and snacking.
2. I will eat at least 5-7 freggies each day.
3. I will eat 3+ protein servings daily, including at least two dairy.
4. The remainder of my calories will come in the form of carbs.
5. I will include strength and stretching exercises in my daily routine.
6. I will participate in the Silver Sneakers and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week.
7. I will continue to exercise a minimum of 10 min/day on days with no scheduled activities.
8. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 5% Spring Challenge, as well as my team activities.

Other Information:
I love to read, do genealogy, spend as much time as possible with our grandsons and new great-granddaughter. We just moved to a condo last spring, so we're adjusting to having no outdoor responsibilities. We've rented a city garden spot for this year and we're looking forward to having plenty of fresh veggies!

Hi. Thanks for the blog visit. So you are a nurse too. How nice that you went to your reunion. Which school. Not sitting so much anymore. AND SETTING THE CLOCK is a great idea. Especially for the genealogy...to tempting to keep going. :)

Yes, we are enjoying it but today and last night it poured rain, the day is gray and cold! Temps in the low 50's combined with a cold rain, LOL! Not what I had hoped for but at least we had one week of good weather here in Maine. It has been gray and rainy since last Thursday and today is Sunday. Plus, we booked a stay in Mountainview Campground because it was on the bay with gorgeous views, and we found when we arrived that we would not HAVE those views because our 5th wheel is too long. We are parked up by the road where it is a long walk (in the rain) to the bathroom and also to the ocean. Very disappointing and an expensive mistake. I would not recommend coming here, the woman in the office/antique store is not very friendly and the entire place has a rundown aura. So, unless you have a smaller travel trailer or a tent, and the weather is nice, STAY AWAY!!

Too bad about your sister and her cellulitis, that can be a real problem especially when circulation is compromised, it seems the problem returns again and again. I remember one man we had on home health with that problem, plus he had venous stasis ulcers which were very hard to clear up and returned again and again. Best to stay active and keep your extremities moving! emoticon

Glad you have seen Maine! You need to come again and stay for a bit. There is a really nice park (a KOA) on Mount Desert Island where Acadia is, that you can back right up to the ocean in some of the sites. We just saw it after we had already decided where we would stay. emoticon

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I am doing the Appalachian Trail the same as the lady but she is making more progress than me....which makes me feel so very guilty!! I don't think in my life time I will finish the trail...lol
