Learning to Become an Intuitive Eater
I am 27 years old and have been obese for the majority of my life, but I have not always been this way. When I was a freshman in high school, I was so busy with sports and other activities, that I naturally lost weight without thinking about it. My goal is to get back to that mentality. I am 27 years old and have been obese for the majority of my life, but I have not always been this way. When I was a freshman in high school, I was so busy with sports and other activities, that I naturally lost weight without thinking about it. My goal is to get back to that mentality. I want to stop obsessing about food and my body, and live a peaceful, full life without stress or guilt. This is the start of my intuitive eating journey. How I am approaching exercise: When I was in grade school I was always the tomboy. I would spend all of my time outside biking on trails through the woods, building forts, playing softball, roller skating (which soon became roller blading when inline skates were invented), swimming, climbing trees; the list goes on. As I sit here I can't help but to think, "where did all that excitement for the outdoors and physical activity go? What can I do as an adult that fuels this hidden desire?" Whenever I watch mountain biking races I get excited. In fact just about any outdoor extreme sport gets me going! I would love to be able to do that and ride with the best of them! This is what I want to work towards! Slowly but surely I want to be able to reignite this passion. I don't believe that you have to be thin to be fit. In fact, I am not focusing at all on dieting, counting calories, exercise etc. Instead I am focusing on what FEELS right. What "exercise" do I absolutely love? How does my body feel after a good hard "workout". I use quotations because to me it is not routine. I do it because I love it. Simple as that. This is also true for nutrition. I will eat what I crave when I crave it. My Rules: -No more ignoring my body and the signals it gives me. -No more participating in diet talk. -If I feel tired and sore I will rest even if it means skipping a cycling session because obviously my body needs this time to recover. -No more meal plans or workout schedules. -I will only use the food tracker and the fitness tracker as ways to identify when I feel my best. Such as what foods give me the most energy...what fitness activities are helping me to become my strongest? My Goals: I am planning to run my first ever Traithlon in May and then hope to participate in Ragbrai (a seven day cycling race across the great state of Iowa). These are things that I have always wanted to do. It excites me and gets my blood pumping just to think about it!
