There's no time like the present.

I am 37 years old, and primarily a SAH/homeschooling mom to two heathen boys, ages 10 years & 12 years old. This isn't my first journey with SparkPeople (but more on that in a minute). I have never really been very thin, and have pretty much always found it next to impossible to lose weight. I think it's easier to exercise now that the kids can be more active with me; we like bike riding, skating and other outdoors-y types of activities. I have never really been very thin, and have pretty much always found it next to impossible to lose weight. I think it's easier to exercise now that the kids can be more active with me; we like bike riding, skating and other outdoors-y types of activities. In March 2012, we started taking karate as a family.

In the past, every time I started trying to loose weight, I wouldn't loose anything - I'd just end up gaining more and more weight. My wake-up moment came when I realized that if I didn't do something right now, I would tip the scale at 300lbs! I did not want to be that big or feel that sluggish. I happened to remember a friend telling me about SP and so I logged in and started tracking.

Nowadays, I am actually setting goals for myself and working on becoming a healthier person. My original goal was unrealistic; thinking that something that has taken a lifetime to establish (bad eating habits and basically no exercise) would be so easy to change.

On my first run with SparkPeople, I lost 70lbs. Then, my weight loss plateaued after about 8 months and I got really, REALLY discouraged. I managed to maintain for a while, then started gaining weight again.

After a few attempts at re-starting myself, I am feeling more motivated now (especially after gaining back all 80 pounds that I lost to begin with) and am committed to sticking with my plans. I tried to start again in early 2009, but got pregnant, then had a miscarriage. I spent most of 2010 in the grieving and healing process and getting used to homeschooling, but all that's in the past now, and with 2014 dawning, I think that now is a good time to get back into the game.

On more personal notes, I have been diagnosed with PCOS, clinical depression, severe anxiety and hypothyroidism. If you have similar goals or issues, I would love to hear from you!

To track my food every day and exercise 3x per week (at least), and drink ALL my H2O!

My Program:
Being aware of how much I am planning to eat (portion control), learning what it means to first of all have a normal calorie range, and secondly how to stay within it, and logging what I do eat.
I've tried a variety of ways to limit myself, and none of it has worked after I stopped logging into SP every day. Eating often and drinking a LOT of water will keep me from between-meal snacking (hopefully).

Fitness and exercise is such a challenge for me. I like doing yoga, pilates and bellybancing, and kids-yoga with the boys, but I often lack motivation, so if you are reading this, do me a favor and leave me a comment to remind me to get to it!

I am currently an orange belt in Shotokan Karate. I started in April 2012 as a white belt and will soon test for my green.

Other Information:
One of my biggest challenges right now is to stay MOTIVATED! Followed closely by being AWARE of food - how much, what kinds, what the nutritional content of each thing is.

One thing that is helping me is to drink a tall glass of water about 10 minutes before I eat.

Another thing that helps me, especially when eating out and dealing with large portions is to request that a carry-out box be brought with my food when ordering and I box half of my food to take home.

Hi Beaumont Area Sparker!! SRCASSEY & I have been talking & we are going to meet up this Saturday morning at the seating area in front of Channel 4 in Parkdale Mall to walk. Come out & join us for some exercise & visiting! We're going to try to make this a weekly occurrence so if you can't make it out this week, pencil it into your calendar for next weekend!! Bring your kiddos with you too, SRCASSEY will have her lil one & I may have a few of mine too. If you think you can make it, let us know so we will know how many to expect. Don't worry, if you don't RSVP....come on anyways!!! Hope to see you out there this weekend!!
