Glad to hear you have other sources of income besides social security. Staying on a budget you both can live with can be a challenge. I had to put my foot down the first year I was married when my husband caused a rent check to bounce due to him NOT telling me he wrote a check. We sat down and made rules. Fortunately we both kept our word and things were ok.
For us, the checking was put in my name only so I knew the basic bills were paid. I gave my husband a credit card with the understanding he could use $100 each month but needed to talk to me BEFORE he spent more. Also the receipts ASAP so I can make sure the bill was correct. He also got $20 a week in cash. Any purchases over $100 were discussed by US before they were made. By us I mean me as well.
Once you agree on the rules and keep them it is a lot easier to manage a budget and prepare for emergencies. I hope things work out for you both and will keep you in my prayers.
HA! That Crellie sounds like a character! She's just a li'l tiger on the couch. My Bella (a Manx) has a way of showing affection that can make me holler. She doesn't realize how her love nips can hurt. *hugs* BB~
