Improving Me!

Are you spending your time doing what you really want to do? I know that I wasn't -- and a good part of the reason was that I didn't have enough energy. I had been especially disappointed in myself for gaining extra weight over the past few years, so when I woke up one morning in December 2009, I decided that it was high time to quit procrastinating. I needed to make some positive changes in my life. So here I am, trying to improve myself!

Fast forward to January 1, 2014 ~~ I've made many improvements over the past four years on SparkPeople, but I'm still working to be a better me! This program helps me to focus more on my health, and I have made many great SparkFriends whose strength, motivation, and encouragement have helped me along this life journey.

My Goals:
~ Get down to a lower weight that will allow me to fit back into some of my nice clothes.
~ Feel better about myself when I look into the mirror.
~ Learn to choose and eat heathier foods for a life-long lifestyle.
~ Keep a positive attitude.
~ Declutter at least one drawer, box, or area per week.
~ Go to bed before midnight at least 5 times a week.
~ For 2015: Draw one small picture each day in my Art Lover's Day Book.
~ For 2015: Practice calligraphy & lettering each day by writing and learning new Italian words and phrases.
~ Be at peace with myself and my surroundings.

My Program:
~ Earn Spark points by using web search to access "The Daily Motivator" on greatday.com -- a wonderful resource!
~ Get at least 8 hours of sleep per night.
~ Exercise for at least 10 minutes every day.
~ Use one type of my home exercise equipment at least 3 times a week for cardio or strength.
~ Practice portion control, portion control, portion control!
~ Eat more protein and fruits.
~ Read motivational quotes and articles daily.
~ Practice a daily meditation.
~ Remember to be thankful for the progress I've made so far.

Personal Information:
~ I am a retired public librarian living in the hill country in South Texas.
~ I have 5 adorable grandchildren who call me Nonna Lou.
~ An artist wanna-be, I sometimes see myself as mainly a collector of art supplies. I'm still working to change that image!
~ I enjoy book arts, mixed-media collage, calligraphy, reading, poetry, gardening, and tea.
~ I especially enjoy having my grandkids visit me for "Nonna Camp." We make arts and crafts, cook, read, put together jigsaw puzzles, play cards and board games, and just have fun.

Hi! Collage is my LEAST favorite medium to work in. Love to look at them. Dislike creating them. I'm a watercolors and pen and ink person mostly. I dabble in others and like to learn and grow, which is why I'm forcing myself to stay with both the prompts and the themes of the ICAD. I'm on the collage week and fighting my way through. It's a skill I would like to have and a medium I'd like to be comfortable in. I'm just not there yet.

Thank you so much for the goodie. Yes, the stress has been piling on but I am feeling so much better and the energy is getting better. It is so nice to have friends who understand. Thanks for sharing your experience as well. It really helps!
