Enough Stuffing Around

When my husband asked me to marry him I weighed 124.2kgs. Because I make all my own clothes I always had a great new dress for weddings but what was poured into it wasn't usually as impressive. My wedding dressmaker audibly gulped when, a year later, I told her I had lost 26kgs so I wouldn't again be "the fat chick in the good dress" on my wedding day.

Over the first 3 years of my marriage I reached my goal weight of 70kgs. I've never felt so fabulous or confident and I've never owned such gorgeous clothes. To reinforce my new found fabulousity I had plastic surgery to remove all the bags of skin I no longer had anything to put in and, boy, did I look great then!

Later that year my husband and I decided to take 2 years off from our jobs and travel the world. Over the next 24 months we traveled to 33 countries. It was a privilege to have the opportunity. We found depths of courage and resource within ourselves we didn't know we had.

BUT 24 months of eating out three meals a day takes it toll. I am now back to 109.8kgs and just can't seem to find the focus to get back on track. In my defense I have suffered from depression in that time and have also been unfairly dismissed from a job I loved. Seems like those have become crutches for not being able to get back on track. I don't want to be forever looking back on the halcyon six months when I was, to the world, the gorgeous, skinny vibrant person I am to myself every day.

Monitor my calories but manage my own food programme. Stop not going to the gym because it's early, it's raining, I'm tired ... walk and cycle when I get to the gym. Post a blog each day, not necessarily for others, but to crystallise my thoughts and issues around food and my relationship with it.

How wonderful that you were able to take 2 years off to travel the world! My husband and I love to travel, but we have to try to fit it in on his vacation time. Fortunately, he gets 4 weeks a year now and a 6 week sabbatical every 5 years. A lot of the time is spent visiting our large family, but we spend the rest of the time traveling.
It is easy to see how you gained weight eating 3 meals a day out for 2 years. Lots of fun, but now you have to pay for it! Sorry to say.
You can do it! You did it before and you can do it again. I know it is not easy. I am happy when I lose half a pound a week and it seems like I will never get back to where I was a few years ago, but we can both do it! I have hung a cute black jumpsuit that I used to wear on my closet door and it reminds me that I want to be wearing that jumpsuit for Christmas! emoticon emoticon
