Warrior in training: Take 2!!!

I signed up for the Warrior Dash last winter in the hopes of being motivated to work out and get fit for the race. I did go to a trainer one day a week and managed to go to the gym for some cardio one day a week, but have to admit I was not committed at all! I was very tempted to bag out on the race and honestly, if my husband had even suggested we not make the trip across the state for the race, I would have gladly skipped it...I was terrified of being one of the only "fat" people doing the ...
I signed up for the Warrior Dash last winter in the hopes of being motivated to work out and get fit for the race. I did go to a trainer one day a week and managed to go to the gym for some cardio one day a week, but have to admit I was not committed at all! I was very tempted to bag out on the race and honestly, if my husband had even suggested we not make the trip across the state for the race, I would have gladly skipped it...I was terrified of being one of the only "fat" people doing the race and was imagining being completely exhausted at the end. Indeed, I was absolutely exhausted at the end, but I did it and I had sooo much fun! I accomplished feats I never though I'd be able to do...scaled a huge wall holding onto a rope, climbing over to the other side and then repelling down the other side...I am terrified of heights, but I did it!!!! My husband who had no desire to do it, but agreed just to not be left out, also had a blast. We signed up for the 2014 race the week after we were done. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it was so worth it. The sense of accomplishment was well worth the physical exhaustion and scratches and bruises. (I was NOT the "fattest" by any means and was super excited to see others in similiar fitness levels as me out there giving it a go too.) I am DETERMINED to be in better shape for the next race in the summer of 2014. We've invited a big group of friends to do the race with us and I know it will be a fantastic time, so I'm setting my final goal by the race next summer. We're also hoping to go to Maui in February, so I'm setting a mini goal for that trip. I also turn 40 November of 2014, so additional motivation to be fit and fabulous for the big birthday bash in Las Vegas.

About me: I have a 15 yr old son and 12 1/2 yr old daughter. My children have never seen me at a healthy weight or with a healthy lifestyle and that makes me really sad. Both of my kids are incredibly active with soccer, downhill skiing, rock climbing and my son has turned into a cross country running machine with zero body fat. My husband fluctuates in his weight, but also plays indoor soccer to keep a little fit. Like most Mom's, I put everyone else and all of their activities ahead of my own health and well-being.

I am at a crossroad where I need to really evaluate what I want to be (healthy or unhealthy) and figure out how I'm going to get to my goal. I need to stop giving myself excuses to cheat on my diet and/or not exercise and really make my health a priority. Clearly, the plan of doing nothing isn't working. I'm so tired of being tired and unhealthy! It's time to make a change and be the thinner, healthier, and happier person I know is inside of this over weight body! I'm strong willed and headstrong on so many aspects of my life. It's time to take those attributes and focus them on this life changing and much needed goal of being healthy.

My Goals:
I have 60+ pounds to lose to reach my goal of 185 pounds (I'm 6 feet tall).

I am registered for the Warrior Dash in July 2014. My goal is to not only drop pounds, but to gain the muscle and stamina to not feel like dying after the race.

My Program:
Eating better and more frequently needs to be a priority. I will start the day with protein and eat some with every meal. I will increase my veggie intake a lot and limit my sugar intake. I need to make the time to plan ahead since this is a big challenge.

I signed up for a "Body Blast" class for strength training and cardio 2x a week. I also have a gym membership and will try to add at least 1 additional day of cardio to my schedule on the weekends. In the past I felt great when I work out 3-5 times a week! - (which I NEVER ever thought I would say!!) So I need to get back in the habit of making ME a priority and getting to the gym.

My biggest challenge is giving up the "empty" calories. I am a daily mocha drinker (sometimes 2 a day) and wine with dinner is more often than not....we are very social people and enjoying good food and wine over dinner with friends.

Personal Information:
Celebrated 15 years of marriage to my handsome husband in May 2012.

I'm the Mom of 2 wonderful kids and 2 adorable dogs.

We live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Spokane, WA.

We LOVE the outdoors and camping. I'm excited to add hiking into the camping equation this summer! Might even try to overcome my fear of heights and give rock climbing a try...my kids and husband are avid climbers.

Soccer is our life! Both kids play select soccer year round and my husband also plays on a co-ed team so we're constantly on the go....and love every second of it! (people think we're nuts!)
