Mama, remember to streeeeeetch
July 2010, meeting the Spark -- It's time to get serious about fitness. I know it's never going to be easier than now, so here we are!
When I walked down the aisle, I weighed in at 138 pounds. Just more than a year later, I'm back to 144. This is an ongoing battle. I can remember hitting 155 in high school -- too much junk food and not enough exercise. I can vaguely remember being 130 when I was in college. I had spent a summer interning at a newspaper and living by myself. Without a lot of friends around, I worked out all the time for amusement and didn't dine out often. A doctor jotted that down as my official weight and I was shocked.
I don't know if I've ever seen 125, but I'm off to find out what might be possible with exercise, meal tracking and effort!
July 28 -- I'm below my wedding weight at 136.8. I don't feel a ton different yet, but I'll keep on trucking.
Aug. 18 -- I've gained two pounds and I'm back at 138 and some change. Time to reevaluate my meals and refocus my workouts.
Dec. 28 -- I'm hovering around 131. I've seen 130 on the scale a few times, but I'm waiting to see something with a 2 in it!
Jan. 31 -- Still trying to break into the 120s. It's a tough battle when my elliptical is gone. Looking for new equipment to bring back a fitness routine.
Feb. 10 -- I'm flirting with breaking into the 120s. It's so frustrating to be stuck here for sooooo looooong. Right now, I'm doing the 30 Day Shred, since I am elliptical-less. I'm still looking for an elliptical on craigslist, but of course, I will only get a new one when I find one at the right price. I'm also eating clean-er, but I will never give up cookies, hershey kisses and icing out of the can (yes, you heard right). If I can't stick with the restriction for life, I don't want to implement something that I'll just stop doing when I reach my goal.
March 3 - I'm starting the Insanity program -- now on day three! It's very tough and I just do what I can, when I can. I hope that it will help me break into the 120s and get ready to start training for races when the weather is warmer!
April 13 - I finally am in the 120s. My first official weigh in outside of the 130s was at 129.4. This is the first time in my adult life I've ever seen that number. Here's hoping I'm here to stay!
June 3 -- I have one month left until I've been here a year. I'm determined to get this done and reach 124. I started the month at 130.4, but I'm confident that I can make my goal. We all know what we're supposed to do to lose weight, it's just a matter of actually doing it.
June 29 -- I've been named the official ambassador for the Fort2Base Race on Sept. 11! I'm training for a 10 nautical mile race, which is 11.5 miles from Fort Sheridan to Great Lakes Naval Base to raise money for military families. Can't wait!
July 15 -- I have been doing this for a year! I can't believe it. I haven't reached my goal weight, but that doesn't really matter. If I was super dedicated and cut out all the bad foods I enjoy, like chocolate and Taco Bell, I'm sure I could see that number on the scale. I'm not willing to give up everything I love for an elusive number. It won't make me any happier. I gained five pounds on a trip to Seattle, so I'll just focused on getting rid of that before I obsess about being a certain weight.
Sept. 6 -- I'm just a few days out from my big Fort2Base Race! I'm racing 11.5 miles on Sept. 11 and I already have a half marathon planned for the end of October. I'm also just three pounds shy of my goal weight.
Feb. 1 - It's been way too long since I've been on. I weighed myself the other day and I was 132. Eek! I need to get refocused or else.
I'm trying to get to my goal weight for the first time ever!
140: New workout clothes (Got it!)
135: Spa day (Been there ... I did a treatment instead)
130: Jeans ((I can't stay here consistently -- I bought a size 4 as goal jeans)
In February, I did the 30 day shred. It helped me tone up my arms, and in I'm starting the Insanity meal plan at least 80 percent of the time, which includes small meals every three hours of complex carbs and proteins. Except potatoes. I'm Irish people, it's a proven fact that I'll explode without potatoes at least once a week.
In July, I started training for an 11.5-mile race, which includes running four days per week, one day of stretching and one day of cross training.

OH OH OH, It is Fort2Base you are doing!!! Very cool! I just posted to your thread on rookie runners. There is a 10K in Winthrop Harbor after the Fort2Base run with free health screenings. The person in charge is a friend of mine that had a stroke and this is for stroke awareness.

Thanks for the comment on my blog...it is truly amazing how many people can relate to my story.
It has been almost 3 years since what I described happened and I am so happy that I "dodged the bullet" with that girl. After backing away from her, I realized how shallow, superficial and just a general inconsiderate person she is. Although, if it had not happened, I probably would have never met my girlfriend who I am so happy with.
