Making ME
2012 was a good year for many reasons-- except one. I lost my motivation. Just gone. I found 20 of my lost pounds and stopped so many of my (0ur) good habits. Time to change it. Time to be who I really want to be and not slide through life again. It needs to count. I turned 44 this year and it will not get easier or better if I don't give it effort! (Older About me stuff below....) I am married, and the mother of one 13 year old son. I am taking time to really learn more about myself. I joined Spark People in March of 2010 as a place to help me learn how to be a healthier person. I was kidding myself that I was okay with who I was, and that I would rather be "fat and happy than skinny and bitchy." Well, the truth is, I was at the heaviest ever and miserable almost every day because of it. I hated shopping - was discouraged by the clothes that actually did fit, hated going out because I didn't have anything that fit right. I started being really self conscious all of the time about my weight. Something had to change. I just didn't know where to start. I don't believe in diets and never have - but learning to just be healthier .. that I can do. When I stumbled on SparkPeople it was really confusing at first and a bit overwhelming. But, it is just what I needed. I needed -- and need -- to feel good about me. I am amazed by the success stories and the blogs and how interactive this site can be. It helps - a lot. My friends are all encouraging and they are very supportive - but there is a difference when someone else is walking the same walk even if its on a different path. My husband joined me on this journey and we are doing it together. Our son is learning with us - he is still young and doesn't yet need to watch his weight. But, he can learn to eat healthier and make better choices. Our choices are his examples. Our lives are pretty busy - my son plays ice hockey on a travel team and this year we opted for a higher level a bit farther from home. Add school, golf, my own interests and family time -- we are on the go a lot. Learning to stop and take me time has been a key. I've never been an "exerciser" and never considered myself one of "those people." But, over the last few years I've learned to enjoy it. I have struggled this past year to maintain but am going to slowly put myself back to where I want to be. I also learned that taking on too much can lead to imbalance and that doesn't last.
