Buttermilk Pancake recipe comments: instead of white flour, use a combination of whole wheat pastry flour and oat flour. Flax seed meal and almond flour (also called almond meal) are other options. "Bob's Red Mill" is an excellent source for all types of flours and meals - including buttermilk pancake mix. Use egg whites (available fresh and powdered) instead of whole eggs if you're watching your triglycerides. Try dark agave syrup as a tasty low glycemic alternative to maple syrup. Instead of keeping fresh buttermilk on hand, get a container of powdered buttermilk (and store in the frig once opened). Add fresh, frozen, or soaked dried berries to the pancakes for an antioxidant boost. Blueberries are a traditional addition, but goji berries and cape gooseberries are also great options.

I got stuck on today's (Feb 5) quiz regarding your food personality type at the first question. My breakfast just about every morning is a homemade smoothie: my winter mix is 100% cranberry juice, homemade skim yogurt, flax seed meal, banana, apple, xylitol, and mango or strawberries. (Cranberry for kidney stones and immunity, yogurt for intestinal health (though I'm going to start making and using keifer instead), flax seed meal for Omega-3 cell building, banana for potassium, apple for fibers, xylitol for dental health, and strawberries for iron and other vitamins.) Needless to say, choosing between bacon and eggs (I don't ever eat bacon, and I don't care for plain cooked eggs - not to mention that I've switched to whites-only for most purposes), empty white carbs, and the other choices didn't do it for me. I looked at question 2, but since it referred to fast food, which I don't do (not counting the rare Taco Bell vegie burrito), and I noted that the quiz was sponsored by Applebee's, so I decided to bail.

I took a cursory look at the recipe files; what gives? Lumping "Fish" and "Vegetarian" together? That's not a promising start.
