Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
My name is Sherrie.
I'm starting over. It doesn't matter how many times you fall down. What's important is to get back up.
I started this journey May 11, 2007. I made good progress but then hit an incredible plateau. Gradually I became satisfied with my plateau. When that happened, my weight started to go back up. I had injuries. I let life get in the way. ..
Now I'm going work mostly on portion control. I'm going to exercise regularly. I'm going to take lots of small steps in a positive direction.
It's time(again) to FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE. Every time I make a conscious healthy choice, I feel good about it. I enjoy the informative and motivational articles and features on this website. I've saved a lot of articles in my favorites. Check them out!
When I joined, I started collecting quotes on my page, but it got too full so I put them in a blog. I'm just going to leave my five current favorites below, but it's really hard to choose! If you have one you'd like to share, you can add a comment to my page. I'm also going to keep collecting new ones here until it gets too full again:
Forgiveness is giving up hope for a better past
"A goal without a plan is just a wish." ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery, French writer (1900 - 1944).
"Where attention goes, energy flows" James Redfield
"I have so much to do today, I will need to take twice as long to meditate." - Mahatma Gandhi
What a caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly. ~ Robert Bach
Below are "new" quotes (many from other Sparkers.) After I collect 5 or so, I'll put them in a new blog...
"Sometimes we think that the pattern for the tapestry of our lives must have gotten lost. At those times we must stop and listen to the sound of the weaving that still goes on." Gail Kittleson
But charity means pardoning what is unpardonable, or it is no virtue at all. Hope means hoping when things are hopeless, or it is no virtue at all. And faith means believing the incredible, or it is no virtue at all. -- G. K. Chesterton
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow." --Melodie Beattie
Everyday, think as you wake up: Today I am fortunate to have woken up. I am alive. I have a precious human life. I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself to expand my heart out to others for the benefit of all beings.
-- His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama
Outwardly one's life may suffer every kind of limitation, from bodily paralysis to miserable surroundings, but inwardly it is free in meditation to reach out to a sphere of light, beauty, truth, love, and power. -- Paul Brunton, Meditations for People in Crisis
The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.
-- Robert Louis Stevenson
The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
-- Rabindranath Tagore, Gitanjali LXIX
According to many "time management" experts, time really can't be managed. You can't slow it down, speed it up, or manufacture it. It just is. Time management is about managing yourself. Try some ... "self management" to help you prioritize your tasks and reach your goals.
Although I have a ways to go with my weight, I have accomplished two of my goals: To have more energy and less pain in my knees and other joints!
To feel good about myself and feel forward movement in my life.
Continuing goals: To make progressively healthier choices in my life in every area.
Weigh 160 on my 51st birthday on August 27, 2010.
I'm not on a diet. I'm learning to live a healthy lifestyle. I need to think everyday about what specific step I can take toward eating fewer and burning more calories. Being aware of the choices I'm making and the impact they will have...
Portion Control is key. I make more progress when I measure my food and am as accurate as possible on the Nutrition Tracker. I haven't been doing this consistently but I KNOW it would help!
It used to be challenging to go for short walks, but I gradually built up to 5 -7 times a week. Then I got Lula and now I walk most every day.
Also, I gradually added in bike riding and even though it's challenging to fit into my schedule along with walking the dog, I try to do that most days too. I burn way more calories in a lot less time and I really enjoy it. Reminds me of my youth!
