I'm 50 and have been overweight and inactive for 30 years. I'm tired of being fat, sluggish and sore all the time. My body is starting to let me know my age and I want to try to slow this down a bit. Welcome to my struggle.

Here's my story:

I had been thin and an athlete my whole life. I ran Track & Field, ran Cross Country and was a cheerleader during my school years. I even ran with Frank Shorter-1976 Marathon Olympic Gold Medalist!

I joined the Army at 18, married at 19 and had a son at 20. I was 120 lbs and totally fit when I learned I was pregnant. I gained 63 pounds to reach a grand total of 183 lbs the day I had my son. When leaving the hospital, my mother-in-law told me I looked like I was ready to give birth AGAIN!!! I got down to 175 lbs and stayed there for 8 years. Divorce happened and I dropped to 140 lbs.

I then met my current husband. I slowly began creeping back up in the weight department and got up to 164 lbs. Found out I was pregnant with my daughter and got up to the 200 lb weight mark...I cried so hard that day I saw my weight. After having my daughter, I got down to 175 lbs and stayed there until about 7 years ago.

I reached my highest weight about 12 months ago at 223 lbs. I finally decided to do something about it when my best friend, Caiti, had been doing SP and lost 110 lbs. I also had to start taking a diabetic's medicine because I am insulin resistant. My sister bought her and I a program and I promised her I would give her 21 committed days of effort. I stopped lying to myself and began tracking my food and exercising daily. It's been a long time since I have sparked, but I am totally committed. Have been doing Beach Body 21 day fit since May 14, 2014 and have lost 15 pounds so far. Boy, what a reality check!!! I might even post some scary before photos when I am more comfortable with how I look.

The most important advice I could give anyone here who is new or who is having trouble...work on ONE THING at a time until you are confident and committed to adding another thing to keep track of.

Best Wishes and feel free to add me as a friend,

Laurie (a.k.a. Olie)
