Is There Honey Still for Tea?

Even though I don't actually put honey in my tea, this phrase embodies my desire to eat healthy, and eat in moderation, without sacrificing the things that make food enjoyable.

My goal is to simply Eat Less Food, as Michael Pollan suggests. This means controlling portion size. It also means that I aim to eat actual food.

Food that "comes from the ground, or has a mother" according to Jillian Michaels. Reaching beyond that, I want to focus on eating sustainably: Organic. Local. Fresh. Simple. Free Range. Grass fed. Fair trade. Seasonal.

I'm also working on exercising regularly, and losing the many pounds I put on over the years from a sedentary lifestyle. I want to be more mindfully active and develop habits that keep my body moving throughout the day, as well as habitually going for walks everyday. While I am also regularly hitting the gym, I am actively looking for a hobby that will engage my body and keep me motivated for the sheer pleasure of doing it, not just as a means to an end.

About my icon/avatar: it's from a company in MI that produces organic, fair trade honey & preserves. I really like the company name, " Food For Thought" as well as their products. It captures where I want to go in my eating habits -- mindful eating, for myself and the environment. www.foodforthought.net

Favorite Quote: It is very strange, this domination of our intellect by our digestive organs. We cannot work, we cannot think, unless our stomach wills so. It dictates to us our emotions, our passions. After eggs and bacon it says, "Work!" After beefsteak and porter, it says, "Sleep!" After a cup of tea (two spoonfuls for each cup, and don't let it stand for more than three minutes), it says to the brain, "Now rise, and show your strength. Be eloquent, and deep, and tender; see, with a clear eye, into Nature, and into life: spread your white wings of quivering thought, and soar, a god-like spirit, over the whirling world beneath you, up through long lanes of flaming stars to the gates of eternity!"

Well, if you are not used to high elevations, 14,000 feet WOULD be a FEAT to get used to! I never even noticed that as a problem , and I have asthma!

Congrats on reaching your goals! I'm so glad it's spring! More sunshine, means more exercise, and more variety of fruits and veggies available locally! I can't wait for farmer's market to return for the season!

How is the texture on the steel cut oats? They look like they have been chopped up so much!

The actual rice of the forbidden rice doesn't look purple, but it turns the water completely purple!
