Trying to get going. . .

I have tried to lose weight off and on since I had my first son 4 years ago. I met my husband in 2005 weighing a whopping 125 lbs. Then, somehow, since then I have managed to lose myself in the life of a mother and a wife. I have an awesome 4 year old little boy, and the most beautiful 1 year old girl in the world. I now weigh 195 lbs, the most I have ever weighed in my life, and am so ashamed at the way that I look. I quit smoking at the beginning of this year, and the last 10 lbs of my weight ...

Then, somehow, since then I have managed to lose myself in the life of a mother and a wife. I have an awesome 4 year old little boy, and the most beautiful 1 year old girl in the world. I now weigh 195 lbs, the most I have ever weighed in my life, and am so ashamed at the way that I look. I quit smoking at the beginning of this year, and the last 10 lbs of my weight were put on after my quit. I will gladly take weight over smoking any day, but it's still a downfall to my quit. I am hoping to make the 195 my peak weight though. I do not want to gain not one more pound. I'm done being big and lazy. I'm finished with being too tired to play with my kids. I'm through with making reasons not to take my kids to amusement parks and other fun things because I'm worried I won't be able to handle the walking, or being embarrassed because I have to sit often. That is it! I am losing all of this extra weight. I smoked for 10 years, and quit multiple times. The only thing that helped me to quit for good this time was the quitnet forum I joined. All of the friends and support allowed me to do it. I am hoping I can make some great friends here to help guide me through this also. It is going to be hard, and I will most likely cheat. But I want to reach my goal, and I know it will help to have the support of others in my shoes!

Welcome to the "No more smoking" team. I'm new here on Spark (and to not smoking - today is my fifth day of being smoke-free). I'm also a mom who's trying to lose some baby weight that's hung around far too long (I'm not sure it's fair to call it "baby weight" anymore!). I'm adding you as a friend, hope it's welcome. :)

Welcome to SparkPeople. I am so glad that you found us. There is a lot of information here and the best tools to help you reach your goals.

I have been on SparkPeople since April 2009 and I have lost a total of 30 pounds since I have been watching what I eat. Are there days when I eat stuff that I know I shouldn’t – of course. This is a life long journey, one with many paths to take. I just have to keep making the right choices and when I don’t, I get back on the right path and don’t look back.

The encouragement and motivation I get from my Spark friends is amazing. They are always there to help me through tough times and bring a smile to my face. I have found that if I post something that is bothering me, within an hour someone will respond back and make sure everything is alright and offer encouragement.

Being new, I would suggest that you use Your Spark Points (click on View SparkPoints) as a map to the site. It is a good way to see what is new and a great tool for any situation.

My other suggestion is to get on a few teams. Make sure that when you are checking out a team that you look to see if there has been recent activity. If you join a team where there is no activity, chance are that you will not get the support and encouragement you need. You are more than welcome to check out my team, Spin Me A Yarn. It is a small team but it is active and I always try to find new topics to talk about.
