I am one of the first baby boomers, yet haven't retired. Just thinking about it. Have been teaching for 23 years, a National Board Certified Teacher for 6, who is an Exceptional Needs Specialist. Have made it a priority to get fit!! The last 15 years I have had way too many orthopedic surgeries and know that strengthening muscles can prevent further problems. That is my aim for getting fit!!
Had a little setback in December, when I had vitreous detachment in my right eye, with some blood pressure problems, too. They said I was going at the weightlifting too strenuously, so I had to back off to only cardio training for a while. I was given the go ahead to begin my strength training once again just last week. So, will proceed with a little more balance than before. Need to lose 30 pounds before my next checkup in June. That is my new goal!
I have recently assumed the role as co-sponsor of a Ballroom Dance club at my school. I knew I was not in any shape to take lessons, so I embarked on a self-improvement mission. I have been getting exercise and working out on a regular basis at a gym provided by our local school board since mid September of this year. I attended my first ballroom dance class and survived 60 minutes of dancing without collapsing on November 14, 2008. My goals now are to escalate my pace and keep getting more fit with each new day!!
I am using a variety of methods of cardio and strength training exercises. For cardio, my exercise ranges from stationary rowing bike, to walking, to gardening, to ballroom dancing. For strength, I am working on a multitude of weight machines to strengthen muscles in every part of my body. I can feel the changes in my body even though I have not lost any weight. My muscles are toning up more every day.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I am a Georgia girl now. At 62, I guess I am not much of a girl anymore, but hope to get fit enough to feel like one again!!
I am a mother, grandmother, teacher, gardener, writer, actress, and a whole host of other things, too.
Have decided to do something that I loved doing from my days as a teenager. Once active in drama many years ago, I tried out and actually ended up with a small part in an upcoming local production of "The Sound of Music". Rehearsals began today, Feb. 17, 2009 with opening night April 3, 2009. What is really exciting is that aerobic exercise is incorporated in rehearsals every night. It is always fun to begin a new venture!!
