Finding motivation in the honey badger...

Honey badger doesn't care about excuses. He doesn't give a $- -t! He just TAKES what he WANTS! And what I want is:

1. To be more confident and empowered
2. To feel pride in who I am and what I do in life
3. To make the most of my life and help others around me do the same!

These are all things I am currently succeeding in thanks to living a healthy lifestyle through Spark People!

These are all things I am currently succeeding in thanks to living a healthy lifestyle through Spark People!

I was slowly gaining weight and I was sick of it. I got tough on fitness and nutrition. I am a registered dietitian and big time foodie and wineo!

I like to find the positive in every situation possible - I think gaining some unwanted weight was one of the best things to happen to me because it has helped me both professionally and personally. Feeling the success of reaching fitness goals and weight loss was a confidence booster and I feel like I now have a bigger interest in weight loss - a pretty big component in the career of a dietitian!

If anyone is wondering what the heck the honey badger reference is, please check out "crazy honey badger" on youtube! Or this link should work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg (Please don't be offended - there is some swearing and it's not the most tasteful video. But I love it!)

My Goals:
The farthest distance I have run without stopping is:
5 miles! on 8/16/12 (took 2 short walking breaks)
4.5 miles! on 1/17/12
4 miles! on 1/5/12

*Run a 5k - DONE! 11/24/11

*Run a 10k

*Run a mile in less than 10 min - I did this in January 2012, but I forget which date was the first time!

*Run 500 miles in one year

*Try swimming laps

*Double the amount of time I can hold a plank position

*Read one of Michael Pollan's books

*Find/Create 3 healthy slow cooker recipes

*Lose 10 lbs since starting SP - DONE! 12/22/11

*Reach 130 lbs - DONE! 2/10/12

My Program:
I have increased my workouts by using the motivation system I refer to as "allowance" - I basically pay myself for working out! I wrote a blog about it in case you are interested. I also use the food tracker every single day. It really helps me eat and drink more sensibly. I try to follow the "Don't eat it if I don't LOVE it, and it isn't healthy!" rule

Personal Information:
I am a clinical dietitian. I used to get free breakfast and lunch at work and it had increased my caloric intake by about 1000 calories a day. Despite adding a workout regimen to my lifestyle, the increase in my wine and food intake had led to nearly a 15 lb weight gain in less than 1 year! I was sick of feeling bad about myself and my growing waistline so I joined SP and have loved it! I'm a touch over 5'6".

Other Information:
My passions are food and wine. I also dabble in pottery and photography. I'm a pretty big nerd - before I got into nutrition, my first degree was in microbiology and chemistry. I do enjoy a good scientific study and I make an effort to stick to evidence based practice and advice for my patients and my own life. No quackery please!!

If you ever visit Amish country, it's absolutely a MUST stop. You can taste about 40 different cheeses. Daughter was appalled that we were "wasting our time" standing in line, but we were completely sanguine. And when we finally got to the tasting area, she understood and agreed with our choice to wait.

Actually, Heini's is Heini's Cheese Chalet just outside of Berlin, Ohio, in a little place called Bunker Hill. Amish cheeses and other goodies. We love that place SO MUCH.
