Welcome to my journey to better health. In 1986, I used to weigh 120 pounds before getting married & having children. I was never active when I was younger, but I was able to keep my weight down. Over time, my lack of extra activity caught up with me. In the past couple of years, my dad developed high blood pressure, heart problems, and diabetes. As I saw him going through these ailments, I decided to get in better physical shape, so I don't end up with any physical problems. I also want to enjoy doing things with my kids.
This website has been a God-send for me. In January of 2007, I had decided enough was enough. I would be turning 40 that November and I was going to lose some weight. I was at the highest I had ever weighed at 178. I got on line searching for recommended calorie intake for women and stumbled across an advertisement for Spark People. I could not believe that it was a FREE help site and all that it had to offer. I quickly signed up and have been around since then. I am not going to lie and say it has all been roses or that I have been faithful in tracking my food and exercise. But I have learned so much & I am more aware of what & how much I am putting in my mouth. Now when I take a notion to "graze", it is only one or two chips, instead of one or two handfuls.
I met my original weight loss goal on January 18, 2008. That was eighteen days past the date I set for my goal to be achieved, but I met it and my thighs are no longer "eating my shorts". I have decided to lose 5 more pounds. I will see what my BMI looks like at that time and decide if I am ready for the maintenance level.
Update: I reached my goal weight of 145 in June of 2008. I have set my maintenance range at 149 - 141 pounds. I still need to work on my trouble areas (stomach, hips, bottom, and thighs). This is unfortunately where my body chooses to store fat. I hope that I will be able shrink them some more. If not I hope that I can be happy with my body as it is. I started out wearing a tight size 14. I am now wearing between an 8 and a 10.
1. I want to stay in maintenance range of 8 pounds of 145 pounds (4 pounds above or 4 pounds below)
2. I want to continue to lose some inches off of my thighs (my thighs are no longer "eating" my shorts, but I would like them to be smaller), tone up my back side & flatten my tummy.
3. I need to figure out a calorie range for maintenance level.
1. Prayer & reading my Bible.
2. I am focusing on drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Tea & sodas are only a "luxury" & the thing is I really don't miss them:)
3. Cardio at least 5 days a week & strength training 3 times a week.
4. Tracking what I am eating on the meal tracker. Calorie range 1290 - 1698.
5. Making sure I am hungry before putting any food in my mouth. Focusing on portion control.
I am a stay at home mom to 3 wonderful children, ages 15, 12, and 6. I have been married to my husband for over 20 years. I have been involved in our church's children's ministry for over 12 years. I was raised in church since I was very young. I am a Christian, who enjoys spending time developing my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have a home day care.
I enjoy reading, cooking, and attending my children's sporting events. My favorite authors are Mary Higgins Clark, Jannette Oke, and Terri Blackstock.
I enjoy watching crime dramas, like Without a Trace, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, and Law & Order. I also like some reality shows, like Biggest Loser, Top Chef, Survivor.

tammie! thank u so much for the congrats & the ticket! =) first time i've seen the 250s in a LOOOONG time. =) but i'm just passing thru and hoping for no u-turns. =) i find it's much easier to stay on track when i don't stress about following/logging on to spark. but i don't know how long that'll last. lol! oh well... we'll see.
so how are you?? you looks so nice in your pics. go girl!! belated happy anniversary, btw... is that cake in front of u and your hubby?? mmmmm.... =)

Tammie!!! Thanks for your encouraging "high five" and note! So good to reconnect with my "Fresh Start" buddies again. I've been half-hearted with tracking and even worse with exercise and sadly, it shows in how the clothes fit (rather, don't fit) and how I feel. Sooo, here we go again! God is always good, even when I'm not, and with His help this downward spiral is turning around! Track, track, track...move, move, move!
