I joined SP in April of 07' but have to admit that I didn't really commit to the program. Since then I have been losing weight, gaining insight and finding new great friends! I've also gained weight, suffered from major illnesses, and lost special loved ones. One thing I can definitely say, my life is never boring!
It would be a grave understatement to say that much has happened since I initially joined Spark People. I have been pedaling so long on that stupid yo-yo cycle that Lance Armstrong should be struggling to keep up with me. I started SP with a bang and did pretty good for a while. In 2008 my health began to give me serious issues. 2009 started off with my uncle having a massive heart attack and went downhill from there. I got mange from a new puppy!!!!! My sister died unexpectedly at the age of 38. My pre-med, diabetic, "I'm not procreating" daughter became pregnant a week later. I moved to south LA to help her with preparations for the baby, AND I was admitted to the hospital! Heart, lung, and kidney failure; Sepsis; ventilated; placed in a medically induced coma; contracted Swine Flu (in the ICU no less); and was given a less than 5% chance of survival! You see, I really am a fighter, I just kiss the mat HARD a lot too during the bout!
God has moved new people into my life-- not as a replacement for old friends, but to accentuate how wonderful and diverse people are. He has also let me reconnect with some "old" tried and true friends. It's like that song I learned when I was a Brownie-- "make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver and the other gold."
I won't say it has been easy; most of it has just been returning to ways that I know to be true and beneficial. I was once very thin and very active, along the way I became lenient and sedentary. I'm not sure if the sedentary life was due to the immune issues or the other way around.Thankfully, I am turning the tide in my life. It is a slow process, but I have to keep reminding myself that it took time to become this large and it will take time to become smaller again.
I've had some successes, hit some plateaus and even a few brick walls, BUT I am NOT giving up! I just have to step back, rethink and regroup. Sometimes I even have to call in reinforcements (my own personal cheering squad) to push me or give me an "atta girl" along the way. I am tired of letting my weight define me as a person and defeat me-- it is time that my "old" me met the recently acquired qualities of the "new" me thought processes. I think they'll make a great team, once the fine tuning is tweaked.
I may not always succeed every week in my weight loss. As long as I keep pursuing it, with changes in my diet; exercising more; and staying the course, I will make progress. In time I'll win the battle over the bulges, the double chins, the muffin tops and the large masses!!!!!
I am down 70lbs from when I first started. Yay Me! It took a long time, but I am still at it, and making progress. I'll take that as a good step any day of the week.

I will use my resistance bands, my gazelle, and my hand weights to build up strength and stamina. Once that has improved, I will incorporate yoga, Pilates, low impact exercise tapes and move into Zumba! Hopefully by summer, there will be a marked difference. Would also like to incorporate water aerobics into my fitness routine. Eventually working up to biking and/or running. My goal is to run a half marathon within the next 18 months.
Lots of changes have been happening in my life. Change may not be liked, but sometimes it is definitely needed!
My favorite TV shows are: White Collar, Burn Notice, Rizzoli & Isles, Covert Affairs, Royal Pains, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, DWTS and SWAMP PEOPLE!!!!! I also love to read-- Eugenia Price, John Grisham and Nicholas Sparks are a few of my all time favorite new authors, although nothing can touch Hawthorne, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Poe, O Henry and Twain. I like to watch movies and love old classics. I will always think that Jimmy Stewart was "the perfect man" and that I was born much too late! I like to write short stories and poetry to pass a bit of time. I LOVE COOKING!
