Journey of a Hockey Mom

My journey for a healthy lifestyle started in February 2005, but by summer I was back to some of my old habits.
I got really serious in December 2005 when my 8 year old son was diagnosed with insulin dependent Diabetes. Our life changed within a minute and as a family we found our Silver Lining - healthier lifestyle...

To finally get rid off my 60lbs baggage I collected over the years from fertility drugs, 2 babies and my underactive thyroid. To teach my newly diagnosed diabetic son how to eat healthy and still enjoy life.

My Program:
I will watch more what I eat, keep doing my cardio at least 5 times a week and my strenght exercises 3 times a week. Cook more and healthier and eat out less.

Personal Information:
I live in the Sunny Okanagan, BC with my hubby and 2 overactive boys (3 and 9).I work from home and I spend my time driving my sons to hockey, skating, soccer and all that fun stuff that boys do.I love bargain hunting, traveling, scrapbooking and hanging with my friends.

Hi, My name is Patty. I also have 2 boys and spend all the time running around to hockey, soccer and cub scouts. I also work full time. Although I wouldn't change anything because I love going to all the games it does leave little time for me. Too many meals are done on the run heading to some sporting event. I have been looking for someone with similiar activities.

I had to use fertility drugs for both my kids too. Despite the weight gain it was well worth it because I have two healthy boys. Sorry to hear that one of yours has diabetes. That is very tough for a kid. One of the boys on the hockey team has diabetes and has a pump. I have diabetes as well but luckily only oral meds. It has helped though when the boy was playing hockey. Sometimes the mom couldn't go and although there was always someone with him it did worry the coaches because of the pump. I had spent a lot of time talking with the mom so I felt comfortable enough with it. One day the pump moved a little more than usual and caused him pain. The coaches started to panic a little. I was able to reassure them and the kid until the grandfather could get over to him. It is definitely a hard thing to handle with all the food that is around kids and then their activity levels can change so much. I wish you both the best with this.

I am trying to start a group on the comment boards under other groups titled Sports Moms. I am sure there are many of us out there trying to balance too many things at once. Hope to see you there. Patty
