Welcome to my Sparkpage!

On 07/20/11 PST or 07/21/11 EST, I'm became a newbie joining SparkPeople like you and so many others. Iíve struggled with my health being asthmatic from childhood, gained ~ 60 pounds over a 6-month period while on experimental medication for severe headaches in 2002, about 13 years ago. Going from 140 lbs to 200 lbs was saddening. Over the years, Iíd lose between 12 to 15 pounds, but gained it all back and more. I fault myself for not being able to give priority in this important area of my life, to improve my health and well-being.

Several years ago, I came to the realization that getting into physical shape and fitness meant not being excessively overweight or obese, and it's not about physical appearance, but for optimizing one's health. It has been a fruitless pursuit for quite some time, and Iíve learned to be patient, never quit, and developed a deeper compassion for others facing the same challenges.

Part of the problem of committing to a health and fitness program for any length of time to see results, is due to having moved 6 times, changed jobs 5 times, still taking classes for 11 years straight, and the time it takes to bounce back into action after a friend or relative passes away (lost an uncle, cousin, aunt, great-aunt, and brother in 2011).

In 2013, at 213 lbs, my lab work results were the worst Iíve seen, thyroid problems, triglycerides, low Vitamin D, low B vitamins, and lack of nutrition due to my body not extracting nutrients from certain foods. Iím gluten/wheat sensitive, as well as adversely affected by corn, soy, and dairy products. Iím warned to only allow 20% of those items in my diet. In nine monthsí I lost ~46 lbs when I stuck to the nutrition plan and glided 10,000 steps on my Gazelle.

However, I gained back 12 to 15 lbs in 2014 due to not being able to stick with the program as I struggled over two years of holidays, recently changed jobs, and moved. Iím still at 30 to 36 lbs down from my heaviest weight, currently fluctuating between 177 and 183 lbs on any given day/week.

At the end of 2014 I started experimenting with different nutrition and exercise options, not going back to whatís never work or what I grew tired of, but hopefully I'll see positive results with the new changes that I'd like to stick to for my lifetime. I've incorporated the Couch-to-5K program, tracking my steps on my fitbit, plan to get my Gazelle and Total Gym setup again soon, and will keep updating my profile here.

My goal is to get back to 140 lbs, which is my healthy weight without being overweight. I'd be too boney at optimum weight, lol! :)

Skydived twice! ...just for the thrill and a reality check!

Played Chess competitively over a decade or so ago, and play mostly friendly games once in a blue moon now.

Plugged into a great local Christian Church! ...and a small Bible Study group!

    Hi Swayde, thanks for dropping me a line. Hope all is well with you. My fitness program came to a halt last year and I gained back all the weight due to poor diet/nutrition and virtually no exercise. I'm married to my job and school... pretty sad. I plan to get going again soon, but it's not easy. I met a fitness buddy once but she has a family and is busy too... will have to go it alone, but it's a battle with competing priorities. How have you been doing?
