I started with my highest weight at 267 pounds in 2010 and lost up to 16 pounds over the last few years. I gained back some, lost some again, but never gained back more than I lost. That changed this past summer. I exceeded my highest weight ever by weighing in at 268 pounds at the end of August. Something has to change and quickly.
Although I have not kept the weight off so far, I still count my journey so far as a success, because of all the things I learned through it:
I learned that, while losing weight and getting healthy and fit are my ultimate goals, I need specific fitness related goals to work toward in order for me to stick to it.
I learned that I actually enjoy working out - it just depends on the type of workout, having specific fitness goals, and keeping things interesting (I get bored easily).
I learned that I am a work in progress and it is O.K. to not reach every goal at the time I want to reach it. As long as there is progress, I am still winning.
I learned to love myself and enjoy life no matter my size, weight, or fitness level.
I learned to read food labels, cook from scratch, and have significantly increased my vegetable consumption.
I learned that a setback is just that. Dust yourself off and keep going. Only if you stop completely is when there is no progress.
I learned the importance of non-scale victories (NSV) to measure progress. The number on the scale is just one of many ways to track your progress.
I learned to not obsess on tracking my weight anymore and only weigh in twice a month now.
I've already learned a lot and I am excited about how much more I will learn.
Lack of motivation to exercise used to be my biggest hurdle. I have since learned to actually enjoy my workouts, but now my biggest hurdle is time. I get up at 5:30, leave the house at 6:30, come home between 18:30 and 19:00 (depending on traffic) and I simply do not seem to get our evenings running smoothly enough where I can still fit in my workout. I am just happy when I make it to bed on time, which is rare.
I really like working out in the mornings and I used to go running/walking between dropping the kids off at school and going into work, but recently I have been so exhausted that all I can do is take a nap in that time between - otherwise I won't even make it through the day. I need to fix this and put my health first.
So, my very first big goal is to make time for workouts and stick to them. No matter what. After that, it will be step by step and habit by habit.

Short Term Goals:
Finally finish my Getting Started Guide after over 4 years of SP. I keep forgetting to track the fast break goals. LOL.
Drink at least 8 cups of water each day.
Work out every day.
Sleep 8 hours each night.
Run a 5K (Country Run on 11/14/2015)
Long Term Goals:
Lose 134 lbs to be in the mid range for a healthy BMI
Maintain healthy weight

Thank you for leaving a comment on my update from Germany. We are in Stuttgart. What part are you from? I love all the markets, the bakeries, and butcher shops, the farmers markets. I am looking forward to getting a kitchen so I can actually buy some of this yummy food. I'm excited about that!
