I have been with Spark for a 2 and a half years now. I didn't really understand the impact it would have on my life. Now I don't know how to go a day without it.
However, my journey started long ago, about 7 years. At the time being 5'1 and weighing approximately 190 lbs, didn't seem fat to me. I never thought of myself that way, but now that I look back that is what I was. I was too big for the petite clothing that I needed to be wearing. I can remember leaving JC Penney's crying because I couldn't find black pants to fit me and I needed new pants for work. Over the next year I lost 30 pounds. I was feeling so proud of myself. I looked better, I was healthier and I did it my way.
I have to point out that I did it my way because so many people around me were following crazy diets...Atkins to name one. I was the only one doing it eating a better more balanced menu and exercising more. I worked hard, and while I made quite a few lifestyle changes, I never got to where I really wanted to be.
After this loss, I moved from Nebraska to Kansas. I had left my great job, my family and friends. I was alone and I ate. We had to try out all the new eating places and what do you do when you have no friends and you need to let yourself feel sorry for yourself, you eat. Well, I ate. I gained some of my weight back, but oddly I still stuck with the exercise belonging to different gyms and such. However, food is something I love. I love to try new places and to make new recipes. I even created a blog about it. This blog helped me to deal with my stress during graduate school.
When I signed up for SP, I was 165. I didn't feel huge, I just knew I could do better. I knew that if I applied myself I could get healthier and get to do the things in life I really wanted to...hike for long distances, keep up with my very tall boyfriend, keep up with my exercise videos, mostly the active things.
This time though I knew I had to get involved. I started by joining different spark teams and trying to find my place. You can see where I belong. I was doing alright until I found the Turbo Jammers team. On that team, around April, I say a post that asked "Any one tried Jari Love Ripped?". For some reason I checked it out. It was a video that another person was going to try to do for Strength training. I don't really enjoy strength training, but I know I need to do it. I started talking and started getting the videos. Now months later, I still don't love ST, but I get it in every week and the people on this thread have helped me so much. I don't know that they even know how much they help me make it through each day.
So what have I done to lose the weight?
I exercise. and I log my food. It really is that simple for me.
I have tons of videos: Biggest Loser, Turbo Jam, Jari Love, Jillian Michaels, Yoga Booty Ballet, Cathe Friedrich, just to name a few.
I have my Spark calorie burn at 1380 a week. I work hard to get there, but I don't feel like I am always exercising either. I am also a pretty active person walking my dog, hiking and just plain moving around.
I am a recipe junkie. I love to research and try new foods and recipes. I subscribe to many cooking magazines and daily emails. I just love food. I just discovered how much I like oatmeal this winter and have been eating it everyday!
The little things really do excite me.
I finished ChaLEAN Extreme last month, my biggest feat was that I completed it and I lost 17.5 inches! I was very happy with my changes.
March '09 and now April have been rough months for me. I know I need to refocus to keep my progress up and stay where I am at. I am going through some family illness and this is hard for me. It is harder than eating right and exercising hard put together.
Eat Responsibly which means making consicous choices about what I put in my mouth.
Exercise for health not because I have to.
I have always had my own program and it has worked for me. I eat what I know is right, but I do have treats.
I exercise in ways that I enjoy and are well rounded for my body.
I love the Nebraska Cornhusker Football team. Win or lose it is always a good game.
I am 32 and live in good old Kansas.
I work as an Administrative Supervisor covering NE Kansas. I love my job.
I love to watch movies, read, learn new things, bake, decorate cakes, watch sports especially football and hockey, play on the computer and spend time with my boyfriend and dog, Willie.

I did get quite a bit done! It was nice! Back to work today though! One of these days I am going to get an honest day OFF!! :) Have a GREAT weekend!

Wow! Are you getting hammered with snow like we are!! UGH!! But it makes for a snow day tomorrow!! I already have the day FILLED with fun & productive things to do!!! Going to play catch up! How are you?!?! :)

I just wanted to send you a quick note to say hey! School started this week so it is go, go, go, but I wanted to thank-you for your email and say that it meant a lot to me to get it.
I hope all is well with you. I am going to work on that balance - thanks for my balance disk! I actually have one from SP, so I think I will take it out and put it in plain sight in my living room to help remind myself of balance and the fact that I have such great friends on SP who are always so helpful and supportive!
I gotta run now, but I will right more later.
