Still Learning How to Travel This Healthy Road

We all have it in us to make the changes we want, and I wish it was as simple as saying it and having it be so. It's a lot of hard work, especially for those of us who have spent a long time (if not our whole lives) being bigger and being sedentary. I remember the innocence of my first year (and you can read about it in my blogs), having pounds slide off and feeling amazed and pleased by how swiftly the changes could happen even though I'd never really been an active person. After my second year, things slowed down and more challenges occurred, but I was still heading in a healthy direction. My third year was a complete shock to me, how far I could get myself into a hole and how much tougher it was to climb out.

I'm glad that I could have all the experiences of these years because I know both that I have it in me to change and that I will always have challenges to having the healthy self I want. Both of these are invaluable to this journey. I started on a new road almost 5 years ago when I started eating better and then 3 years ago when I learned how strong my body and mind could be, and hopefully, I will have a long road ahead of me. I may never reach the pinnacle of physical health (but you never know!), but I know that I will always stay on this journey to health. I will never give up on me.

My Goals:
I want to get physical activity into every single day: exercising, strength training or doing things with my family outside, whether it's hiking, walking, skating or playing!

Other Information:
Some of my favorite things:
Books - Mysteries are my favorite. I love too many authors to count, but among the top are Julia Spencer-Fleming, Dana Stabenow, Marcia Muller, P.J. Tracy, and J.D. Robb.
Playing games - I play all kinds of different games, but some of my favorites are Scrabble, Boggle and Sequence.
Doing puzzles - A rare treat
Papercrafting - I especially enjoy making cards and scrapbooking.
Camping, hiking and visiting state and national parks - Get a yearly park pass and take a break with nature!
Watching television - I try not to be such a couch potato anymore.
Watching movies - "It's a Wonderful Life" is my favorite because I believe every person does make a difference even if they don't know it.
Of course, I'm saving the best for last: Being with the people in my life, my wonderful family and my terrific friends. I am so grateful to have them!

Glad to hear that the lack of work is no longer an issue. It is hard to establish good routines when life is upside down. The good thing is that you are ready to set it right again. A new job brings it's own stresses, but they pale in comparison to being out of work, and they ought to calm down before too long.

Moment by moment, one choice at a time, welcome back to the path.

Glad you & hubby got out for brisk walk the other night...sounds like it felt really good (don't you love it when it really feels good; when the muscles sing 'work me, baby, work me!') I haven't quite got my hubby to join me on a walk yet - but he's very supportive of my journey and I'm oh-so-grateful for that!

I always 'sparkle' when I think of you (that would be: OFTEN) ~ thanks for the goodie!!! (see, after all this time I'm still using lots of exclamation points - can't help it!)

Your journey-wisdom has always been like a *beacon* for me, helping me to see which way to go, or not to go; showing me it's good to follow the path but it's ok not to be perfect; illuminating potholes in my thinking...yep, wow! Ha-ha!

It was good to hear your 'voice' again.

Love,
Karen
