I am Lucy, currently studying and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. SparkPeople has been a tremendous help in motivating me to keep workout in my life for the FIRST time in my adult life and I am so grateful for all the inspiration and support from fellow Sparkers. My first goal is to achieve a consistent level of fitness routine and ultimately get back to a lean and strong dancer's body as I once had.

Monthly Summary:

2009.02 Tried to keep up with the demands of graduate school and work. Exercise and nutrition took a major hit.

2009.01 Started a new job and spent a lot of time getting life together to welcome the lunar new year and another semester at the university.

2008.12 Starting Stats: weight = 125.8 lbs, waist = 27 in (woohoo!) The goal this month is to enjoy the holidays, not overindulge, and exercise daily.

2008.11 Starting Stats: weight = 126.2 lbs, waist = 27.5 in, special jeans fitting = able to zip and close all the buttons (an improvement from the before picture) but there is still the muffin top (ugh).

2008.10 Sparked routine was seriously compromised by hosting out of town visitors. Bought resistance bands around the end of month, when I began to experiment with a different cardio schedule (4 x 45 min instead of 7 x 30 min).

2008.09 Set two Spark Streaks to track daily exercise and packing own meals five times a week. (Exercise went well, but daily meal packing proved to be too high of an expectation)

2008.08 Joined SparkPeople and began tracking exercise. (Stats: Weight loss from 135 lbs to 128 lbs, 2 inches off waist, 1 inch off hip)

Golden Rules (that I try to follow):

- Be realistic. Changes come in increments and the biggest challenge is consistency.

- Be kind. Rewards and cheers are good for the soul :-)

- Prioritize. Taking care of oneself is non-negotiable hard work, and it's even more difficult to put one's own wellness before loved ones'.

- Eat and drink well. Quality is key and it does not have to be costly.

- Use the power of community. I think the key difference for me this time to finally incorporate exercise into my life is interacting with many types of resources SparkPeople has to offer. It is a relief to know that so many others are struggling with the same issues and still keeping on making healthy choices.

Introduction from August 8, 2008: Over a year and half ago, I quit my job in educational management and moved back in with my folks to attend two graduate programs. The combination of life events (school, home, and helping my parents with the care of grandparents) triggered more frequent binge eating and the sedentary life of a student with much to read led me here with at least 15 lbs to lose.

I barely recognize myself, feeling disgusted and disappointed about my stomach rolls, flabby upper arms and thighs. Even though I have all the tools at my disposal in terms of in home exercise, I let excuses run my life instead of taking charge.

It has been a week since I started my program at sparkpeople.com. So far, I focused on one thing: exercise. I am not tracking food intake or much else as I have too much on my plate right now (pun absolutely intended), but I will use this page as my journal in wellness.

Born and raised in Taiwan, now living in sunny California :-) I am 5'6" and have danced most of my life. A couple of years ago I picked up modeling as a challenge and met many interesting and creative people.

How are things at grad school? My advisor has been stone-walling me and not giving any helpful comments for me to work with to improve my thesis...darn him!

Wow! I love your page! You're such an inspiration! San Fran, huh? I'm going there for a quasi work/pleasure trip this upcoming weekend . . .the Fancy Food Show is being held at the Moscone Center, and I'm hoping to meet some old accounts there. So sad I love the food, but at least I'll be walking everywhere, and hopefully that will help mitigate some of the damage!

thanks for checking in on me. i haven't been around much either. it's been really hectic, but i hope the stress has eased up for a while and i can refocus on my progress. hope you had a nice thanksgiving!
