Doing one of my favorite things: camping in the woods! See how hard I'm exercising?!

This is my beautiful daughter who turned me on to Spark People. She's such an inspiration!

Hello and welcome to my Spark Page! I am 55 years old and through this site, hope to stem my steadily increasing weight since entering menopause last year. I have been an administrative assistant for the past 15 years which, naturally, means a lot of sitting at the desk and being relatively inactive during business hours. But since becoming a SP, I've learned the importance of getting up every 20 minutes to move around. I have learned to pack a great low-cal and nutritious lunch to bring with me each day. And I've learned that to get results means true commitment and dedication. I am blessed with 3 wonderful children ages 18, 24, and 26. All of them keep me on my toes. Just like snowflakes, each one is different, unique, and a blessing! I've been married for 35 years to my soul mate: a wonderful man who I hope will also "catch the Spark" and begin to improve his overall health because I plan to live to be 100 and want him by my side all the way! Update: 10-2-2008~~~Last month I went for my yearly check-up with my endocrinologist and found my thyroid meds needed adjustment. Who knew?! After a few weeks, I got off my plateau and the numbers on the scale began to move along. I know it's a real no-brainer, but this serves as a great reminder to any of us who are on meds that we need to monitor them closely, get regular blood work, and check in with our docs so we can stay healthy and strong!! Update: 1-4-09~~~Today I joined the "New You Bootcamp and Challenge" and I'm very excited about what I can learn and how I can make strides toward better health and fitness. I'm confident the next 4 weeks will finally give me momentum to exercise every day and move to an even higher lever of commitment to self- improvement. My goal is to increase my cardio fitness and strength both in time spent and in endurance.

My Goals:
My goals are "simple." (It's easy to talk about them but it will be a challenge to put them into action.) My first goal is to become more healthy overall: better nutrition, more exercise, smarter choices. The second goal is to lose 15 pounds by New Years Day 2009. The third is to get off my bum and get moving!!
My Program:
Cardio three times a week for sure and add bonus days whenever I can. Strength training has always been difficult for me and is a challenge. I plan to add it to my weekly routine in the next few weeks.
Personal Information:
A Jersey Girl through and through! Born, raised, and living in rural New Jersey all my life. Three kids, one cat, nice little house in the country. Love to travel and go camping.
Other Information:
Love to read, sew, do crossword puzzles, and be with family. Enjoy quilting and scrapbooking. Active in my church and have worn many different hats over the years: Sunday school superintendent, mission team, nominating committee, long-range planning, etc. I love every minute of it! Looking forward to the wedding of my oldest child October 2009. My youngest has enlisted in the Navy and will ship out April 2009.
