Summer 2009--About the Weight I'm at Now

Despite my weight, I like this picture. (So much so that I'm growing out my hair again!)

Winter 2010. My highest weight ever. Ugh.

I have 9 pics in my gallery

Springing Back

I'm a magazine editor with renewed motivation for losing weight and changing my outlook on life. All my life I've been a book worm and non athletic, but I'm tired of feeling like activities, clothes or opportunities are off-limits to me because of my weight.

In the last year or so, I've really pumped up my activity--so much so, that I'd have to count working out as one of my hobbies now. Kickboxing, weight classes, step, spin--you name it. I also love decorating my house (and my ...

I also love decorating my house (and my friends' houses!), organizing pretty much anything, upcycling thrift store stuff, and painting portraits.

I adore my photographer husband and my (black) goldendoodle Wesley, and I love hosting wine and game nights, going to the movies and planning out overseas travel excursions (Spain is next on our list).

I live in Cincinnati now, but went to grad school at Northwestern and lived in Chicago for a while and loved it.

And now I'm hoping this is going to be the next fabulous phase of my life--hopefully with a bit higher self esteem and energy and a little smaller dress size!

My Goals:
Whew, goals... well, I have two main objectives... I'd really like to get my BMI down below 25, and I want desperately to be able to shop anywhere I want and feel like things would look good. Maybe a Size 8? I love summer sundresses, romantic tank tops, etc, but don't feel pretty in them. I envision a day when I can go into my closet and just choose anything at all to wear without wondering if it will make me look fat.

My Program:
I'm tracking every bite (even when I mess up!), and sticking to the low end of my calorie and carb needs.

I joined a high-powered weight lifting class at the gym that I take twice a week. I've also taken up kickboxing! I do elliptical or "shred" on days I don't feel like working out.

Personal Information:
My name is Kate. I'm from Cincinnati, OH, and I'm an editor. I graduated from Northwestern's Medill school of journalism in 2006, and am politically and socially liberal.

I just wanted to tell you how incredibly helpful your comment was on my blog (though I'm so sorry you lost your FIL). I was crying and nodding along as I read it because it is exactly how I'm feeling right now, right down to the feelings of fear of losing my own parents. This is 100% where I am right now. Thank you so much for this. Although it absolutely sucks that someone else has gone through losing a loved one (and even worse not getting a chance to prepare for it), it is so helpful to hear that you were able to make it through to the other side.

I have considered going to counseling for myself, even if my H won't go. I think it might be helpful and I plan to look into it here as things progress. Thank you again.

Thanks for dropping by to comment. It does help to know that I am not the only one that has this.

I mentioned it to a friend this weekend and she was like "well, just so you know, I would have never known this and I think you are the definition of awesome and you have never said anything that I think is off/offensive/boring.

Of course, later, I said something about discipline and I was like "oh, did I cross the line?"

So here to hear about all your health issues! What a bummer! It must so hard for you to not let this get you down. I'm totally convinced that you can do it! Don`t let it get you down. If you can't work out because of sickness, then put your energy in healthy nutrition. Build a good, healthy habit and you`ll have that down pat by the time you can exercise again.

Be strong! We're routing for you!!!!
