To answer your question, RunKeeper refers to a web site and its companion smart phone app that can be used to track running, walking, and similar activities. The web site does not stand out among its peers, but the iPhone app that goes with it is the best of the free GPS tracking/mapping apps for running that I've tested. That, plus the fact that I have family on RunKeeper, is why I'm using RunKeeper instead of Daily Mile or some other app and web site to track my runs.
