I've spent the past 2 years achieving life balance after some pretty rough personal challenges. As a woman, mom and caregiver I always put myself last.

Improving my health has become my priority and I have gone from a size 18 to size 6!! Being of stocky Irish/Scottish stock BMI can be discouraging because my muscle and frame weigh more than most women of my height. So I've stopped looking at external measurements for success and now look within to guage my success. I still have a way to go to improve my blood pressure and cholesterol.

Because size is only a small part of health and wellness, I've looked at balancing all areas of my life. Some of my hobbies are dancing, reading, travel and jet skiing. I collect comic books and graphic novels, love Sci-Fi and spending time with family and friends.

For workouts I do P90x and for balance I do yoga and stay active for fun with hiking and biking. Yoga is more than exercise and has had a profound effect on the way that I now view life.

I love to cook and so am challenging myself to modify my favorite recipes and started gardening to add fresh ingredients and to turn this into a spiritual discipline. I had phenomonal success with weight watchers initially and then hit a plateau and got discouraged that my cholesterol was going UP...actually my whole lipid profile got worse :-( So after seeing a naturopath and nutritionist, I'm on a Mediterranean diet to fight against the genetic predisposition to insulin resistance.

Great to be part of a community that's on the same journey. There are so many motivating people here!

Hi emoticon emoticon New Rykas good shoes great choice!! Your feet will love you now emoticon thats a great idea modify until your feeling better or for ever if that is what it takes to get a good workout in you can get just a great workout with low impact intenisty as you do with high impact. Have you ever tried to step bench? A 20 minute woukout on a step bench is equal to a seven mile jog without the impact to your joints. I love my step bench its AWESOME!! Yes my day is going great its yoga and cardio day for me, your welcome, glad you got shoes emoticon
