I am a 56 year old retired Marine living in the Wisconsin countryside with Genie, my wife and best friend. We have 10 1/2 acres of land that has not been cleared except for where the house is. So we enjoy our privacy and the occasional visit from many of our wildlife friends. It is not uncommon for us to watch deer playing in the front yard while we have our morning coffee and chipmunks like to come in and hide acorns in our shoes. Since Spot and Not, our 2 mutant cats, I call them mutant because they are so big, joined the family after we rescued them from the shelter, the acorns don't show up quit as much. Genie works for a large company in Madison and I am semi retired. She started a small business of her own a few years ago making handcrafted jewelry. I taught myself how to do wire wrapping and now we work and attend craft shows together.

After I retired from the Marines I started putting on weight. Genie and I love to cook and eat so now we both have to pay the fiddler. I am looking forward to this journey with her and the friends we will make here.

THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES STARTS WITH A SINGLE STEP!!

Let the journey begin.

My Goals:
I want to get back to a healthy weight so I don't feel winded just climbing the stairs. I need to get back to that Marine Corp fighting trim so I can keep up with all my grand kids.

My Program:
I am using the nutrition tracker to develop healthy eating habits and stay ahead of the game. We just bought a Wii with the EA Active and Fitness programs to make trying to get more exercise in these Wisconsin winters more doable and enjoyable. I will track that with the Fitness Tracker.

    1. Play with kids.
Even if they are not your own, just kid around kids while they are just being kids.
    2. Give someone a compliment.
Not a fake one, but take the time to see something that someone else is doing well.
    3. Sing in your car.
And sing as loud as you can. Have you ever noticed how hard it is to frown while you are singing?
    4. Watch a movie.
You might like it, and maybe you'll laugh, and maybe you'll cry.
    5. Bake your favorite kind of cookies.
    Then eat some.
    6. Count your blessings.
I mean it. Start a list of all the things you are thankful for.
Write until you can’t write anymore. Staple it to the wall.
    7. Watch people.
Go find a crowded public area, sit down and watch. Allow yourself to wonder what he ate for breakfast, or what her name is, or where he bought that shirt.
    8. Do something for someone you love.
Do the dishes for your wife, take your niece out for ice cream,
take your mom to Starbucks for a coffee.
    9. Laugh
    It'll make you feel good.
    10. Think of the most encouraging person you know and call them.
But don’t complain. Refrain from telling them how bad your day is
and focus on making their day better.
    11. Write a letter.
A good old-fashioned paper and ink letter. Bonus: write it to someone who has impacted your life and thank them and let them know how much you appreciate their role/impact in your life.
    12. Make new friends.
One of them may be in your life forever.

You are not born a winner; you are not born a loser. You are born a chooser.
    I do.. but I don't.. and I want to.. but I won't..
    I am.. but I'm not.. & I could.. but I just can't..
it feels right.. but its wrong.. and I've hurt for way too long,
so when you ask me if I know what I want.. I do.. but I don't..

    Life is like a coin
You can spend it any way you want.
But...you can only spend it once.
    Life is like a mirror.
It'll smile at you, if you smile at it.

Life is like a piece of string.
For some reason it gets tangled,
so it's your job to untangle it.
    Life is like a piano.
The white keys represent happiness, and black keys show sadness.
But as you go through life's journey, remember the black keys also make music.

    Life is like a movie.
    If you are sad........DRAMA
    If you are afraid...SUSPENSE
    If you are angry....ACTION
When you look at the mirror...HORROR
    Now you're smiling...That's COMEDY

    Life is like a book.
Some chapters are sad, and some are happy,
and some are very exciting, but if you never turn the page,
you will never know what the next chapter has in store for you.
