I am a 56 year old retired Marine living in the Wisconsin countryside with Genie, my wife and best friend. We have 10 1/2 acres of land that has not been cleared except for where the house is. So we enjoy our privacy and the occasional visit from many of our wildlife friends. It is not uncommon for us to watch deer playing in the front yard while we have our morning coffee and chipmunks like to come in and hide acorns in our shoes. Since Spot and Not, our 2 mutant cats, I call them mutant because they are so big, joined the family after we rescued them from the shelter, the acorns don't show up quit as much. Genie works for a large company in Madison and I am semi retired. She started a small business of her own a few years ago making handcrafted jewelry. I taught myself how to do wire wrapping and now we work and attend craft shows together.

After I retired from the Marines I started putting on weight. Genie and I love to cook and eat so now we both have to pay the fiddler. I am looking forward to this journey with her and the friends we will make here.

THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES STARTS WITH A SINGLE STEP!!

Let the journey begin.

My Goals:
I want to get back to a healthy weight so I don't feel winded just climbing the stairs. I need to get back to that Marine Corp fighting trim so I can keep up with all my grand kids.

My Program:
I am using the nutrition tracker to develop healthy eating habits and stay ahead of the game. We just bought a Wii with the EA Active and Fitness programs to make trying to get more exercise in these Wisconsin winters more doable and enjoyable. I will track that with the Fitness Tracker.

    ~~ emoticon ~~8 things you didn't know about laughter~~ emoticon ~~

    1. In groups, women laugh more than men.
    2. Laughter is said to improve alertness, creativity, and memory.
    3. Most people cannot laugh at command.
    4. The sound of laughter is not associated with any one language.
    5. One good belly laugh burns about 3.5 calories.
    6. Gelotology is the study of humor & laughter.
    7. Healthy people laugh about 100 to 400 times a day.
    8. That's about 2,800 times a week or 146, 000 times a year.

    You laugh, I laugh...you cry, I cry.
You fall, I laugh, then fall too, because I was laughing too hard.
I laugh even harder when I try to explain why I'm laughing.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

My favorite pain is in my stomach when my friends make me laugh too hard.
Nothing compares with the stomach ache I get from laughing with my best friend.
That awkward moment when you can't stop laughing while telling a joke,
and you're finally done, your friend doesn't even get it.

emoticon Laughter..a tranquilizer with no side effects..please take it regularly emoticon

    Hey you......yes you,
    Stop being unhappy with yourself,
Stop wishing you looked like someone else
or wishing people liked you as much as they like someone else,
Stop trying to get attention from those who hurt you,
Stop hating your body, your face, your face, your quirks..
love them for without those things you wouldn't be you
and why would you want to be anyone else? Be confident
with who you are, smile..it'll draw people in.
If anyone hates you because you are happy with yourself,
then just say "screw it, my happiness will not depend on others anymore.
I'm happy because I love who I am. I love my flaws..I love my imperfections..
they make me "me" and "me" is pretty amazing"

    emoticon My friend,
(I know this is kind of long..but hope you take the time to read it. If you choose to read it, I hope you find it very truthful., as it really makes us think of how the world is today.)

emoticon emoticon emoticon THE PARADOX OF OUR TIMES emoticon emoticon emoticon

Is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers
    Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints
We spend more, but we have less.
We have bigger houses, but smaller families
    More conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense
    More knowledge, but less judgement
    More experts, but more problems
    More medicines, but less wellness.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often
We have learnt how to make a living, but not a life.
We have added years to life, but not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back
But have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space.
We,ve cleaned up the air, but polluted our soul.
We've split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We've higher incomes, but lower morals.
We've become long on quantity but short on quality.
    These are the times of tall men, and short character;
    Steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare,
More leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
    These are the days of two incomes, but more divorces;
Of fancier houses, but broken homes.
It is a time when there is much in the show window, and nothing in the stockroom.
A time when technology can bring this letter to you,
And a time when you can choose,
Either to make a difference,. or just hit, delete.

I don't know why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day.
When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short,
chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.
