I'm 57 years old. Married with four grown children, 2 girls and 2 boys. Of the girls 2 married and the two boys are single and looking for that special someone. I just danced the night away August 21, 2011 at the last of the daughters' wedding.
I love being active yet many injuries from sports, children, life, etc. have had me sidelined for quite a few years of surgeries and years of physical therapy and rehab for these joints of mine!! Some have been so bad that I was confined to bed for a year and a half. That and medications help pack on the pounds even when you are trying so hard not to.
I also have chronic Lyme disease which inhibits a lot of free form movement, and has presented itself to attacking my joints and spine. So I have Lyme Arthritis which tends to twist the joints and causes extreme swelling, stiffness, and pain. I am am on a new treatment so I'm getting more mobility and need to lose pounds to ease pressure off joints. As well as, exercise to limber them up some, increase flexibility, and strengthen my muscles to to aid in pain relief.
Also I miss my old self and want what I can back as much as I possibly can, no matter how long I have to do it.
I joined Spark people on May 17th and have enjoyed the variety of exercises and have been able to adjust them for my limitations ans push through some of the ones I can. I feel so much better that I am doing something proactive for myself and it is working!!!!! Yeah!
I've already lost 3 lbs all total but inches are changing as well. I am only able to go a quarter of a mile each day for my walks but today was able to push just a little further and almost doubled that! Boy am I sore! But happy.
I love to paint, sew, garden, and decorate. I love my three dogs, two little and one huge! lol. However they are all black and white. Not buy my choice either it just happened that way.
I love to read and do crossword puzzles. I like volunteering when I am able to help with children with handicaps or developmental disabilities. I feel that children are so strong and have a determination to overcome the obstacles life as handed down to be able to live as healthily as possible. They get frustrated and they want to quit sometimes but they just have this something that helps them push through some very painful places to get to the next step and then the next! They are such an inspiration to me to do the same.
I love hiking, horseback riding (after back surgery some years ago, the docs and therapists told me I would never be able to ride again however after almost 2 ears of painful rehab and pool therapy) My daughter and husband gave me a tremendous gift of a trail ride for my birthday. I was nervous and excited as were they, but they knew what my goal was to be able to ride again. I had a blast! Even if the brace made it somewhat uncomfortable it was great to cross rivers and streams and go through the woods and mountain trails, all at a walk mind you but that was good enough for me! A huge victory!
My highest weight was 199 lbs. at 5'4" now ( after back surgery you shrink, lol) I was horrified and felt miserable, nothing fit well. after the rehab and pool therapy I had lost down to 175! Much better!
After another 6 months of pool workouts on my own I lost another 10lbs.to 165!! Three months of gym workouts on the machines I lost another 10 lbs to 155! I was on my way to 150 and almost made it. Then I was bit by a little tiny deer tick, and my whole world changed again! Battling for my life and limbs became the focus and finding a treatment that could stop the infection. Long story short, once we did and felt strong again I was back up to 170 lbs. I have a diet I have to follow but I'm making the necessary adjustments and am down to 163 lbs now. but I have hit a plateau and can't seem to get past 162.
It fluxuates up and down between 165 and 162. I have to go slow and not over tire myself or I get a flare up and it's too easy to injure myself these days but I am surprising myself at how much I am able to do and some of the exercises are already too easy with the weights so it's time to move up in weight to 5 lbs.
Wow that sounds so good, and when ever I feel myself stressing about the upcoming wedding and seeing family I haven't seen in 18 yrs. When I weighed 125 lbs. I'm a little nervous. I just turn on spark pages and check out blogs of sucess stories to calm me down and get my focus back.
So I would like to get to know others battleing more than the bulge and I hope I can be a good buddy to some and motivator to others. I will I know need the same from others as well. I've already got one buddy for the 4 wk Bootcamp challenge. and she has been marvelous!

yes I met my goal of 156 for the wedding! Hurray!

I am also doing the Gardening Excercises as I spend so much of my days in the Garden.
I am a native born Texan, transplanted by choice in New England.
I use to do Historical Restorations on Items that had been stencilled or decorative painted and researching it and making it historically correct once more. Esp. Organ Pipes, & Murals.
I love to Paint and draw.
I love good books to read, Crossword Puzzles, Facebook, Long chats on the phone. Getting out of town and shopping, or visiting.
I love to garden, I enjoy walking in the woods and hiking, canoeing and fishing!
