I'm Greg. I've had a few major surgeries over the last few years, a liver transplant 4 1/2 years ago and an ileostomy 1 1/2 years ago. Good news is I feel better than I have in years. Bad news is I feel better than I have in years, and so I tend to eat a lot more food than I used to and I'm less and less active. As a result, I'm 25-30 pounds heavier then I would like to be. I've got 2 beautiful little girls, and considering everything I've been through, I think it would behoove me to get back in shape.
Update 2/3/08 - So far so good. I'm down 12 pounds, half way to my target weight. Feeling great so far.
Update 3/9/08 - It's been almost 2 months, and at 201 I'm almost to my first goal of 200 pounds. Still seeing some love handles though, so I might as well keep going after goal #1 and set a new goal for 190. I'm stunned that I'm almost to 200. I was hoping I could do this, but I didn't realize what a life changing event joining Sparkpeople has turned out to be.
Update 3/11/08 - I hit 198 this morning, blowing by my goal of 200 by April 15th. This is a very satisfying feeling, and kind of suprising that I've done so well, since this is the first time I've really tried to lose weight. I think the main thing is that I believe that this is a lifestyle adjustment, and I plan on keeping this going. I'm looking at setting a new goal of between 185-190.
Update 4/26/08 - On 4/18/08, I reached my 2nd goal weight of 190. I'm proud of myself for burning 34 pounds in just over 90 days. Now comes the task of keeping it off. I should be able to keep up the cardio, since I've gotten in the habit of going to the gym, and I've started running outside at home. Staying on track with the eating will probably be the hardest thing. I shouldn't have a problem drinking my 8 glasses of water, and eating my fruits and vegetables. What I need to stay on top of is portion control and treats at the end of the day.
Update 11/14/12 - On 10/21/12, I decided I was just eating too unhealthy at night. I held 193 pounds for a couple years, but the weight has slowly crept up to an unhealthy level (at least for me based on my past health history). I developed some really good habits when I originally started Sparkpeople, and I've continued to follow some of them, like drinking 6-8 cups of water and eating fruits. I've also continued to work out, which has helped me from gaining even more weight. But I found myself eating half a bag a chips while watching late night tv, or eating a pint or more of ice cream, and it was becoming a regular thing. I need to get back on the horse and see how many calories I'm putting in my body, and how many calories I'm burning during the week.
My goal is to lose 24 pounds by April 15th. I don't know that 200 lbs is my ideal weight, but I know it's one I'm comfortable with. If things are going well, I can always reassess my goals. [Goal met 3/11/08 when I weighed in at 198 pounds]
Staying within the prescribed calorie limits. This has been adjusted as I do more cardio.
Monday - Treadmill or elliptical/Strength training
Wednesday - Racquetball
Friday - Treadmill/Strength training
Sunday - Jogging
