Exercising my way to better health

I have a family history that includes heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, so when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my last pregnancy, I knew that it was time to take charge of my life. I started my weight loss journey in January of 2007 weighing in at 190 and lost 20+ pounds that year and have kept most of it off. My goal right now is to get to 160. I'm currently at 166 and only 11 pounds from being at a healthy weight for my body type. I'm thrilled to be wearing size 8 pants for the first time in my life...I love being in the single digits! Size 6....here I come!

I've also become a runner and completed 6 half marathons. I love the amazing feeling of knowing that I've run over 13 miles in a race! Pretty cool for someone who used to only run if chased!

My Goals:
1. Exercise 6 times per week for 60+ minutes
2. Get to a healthy BMI for the first time in my life...only 11 pounds to go!


My Program:
I am tracking all of my eating on Sparkpeople.
Exercising 5-6 times per week for 60 minutes
Strength training 2 times per week

Other Information:
I'm a band director married to another band director. We have 3 wonderful children ages 12.10 and 6 and 4 babies who we never got to hold on this side of heaven. I am inspired to be healthier so that I can spend more quality time with my wonderful family and not be worn out or grumpy due to a poor self image.

The Nike+ is such a great motivator. I love that you can say, ok...just a little bit more. Well, heck if I did a half mile I can do another...hehe. It's great!! I like the challenges on there too. I'm waiting for my run tomorrow to add my newest ones!

My holiday eating was thrawted by a stomach bug on Christmas eve/day that left me feeling yucky for 5 days and then New year's eve I came down with another resp. virus/fever. Made for an easy no eating too much.

Congrats on another lb gone! My last half was 10/2 & it was a blast! It was a Disney night race. No P.R. but great fun. Things are going well, I am set to run the Women's Half Marathon on 11/21 so I'm looking forward to that. Great job on your half! emoticon
