~Life Without Potatoes~
Yes...they were my everything. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, prepared in any fashion, potatoes were my all-time, forever and ever favorite food for almost 50 years. Sad, but true. Today, I've not wanted these little devils badly enough to eat one. Matter of fact, I've not eaten one since last December, over ten months ago. Why? My cravings for the unhealthy carbs are GONE!!!! You now know what I allowed to cheat me out of many years of life, let me tell you about myself today.... ...
I'm Kathy, soon to be a grandmother for the first time. I'm Godmother (Gramma) to little DJ who is one year old now and brings much joy to my life. My two adult daughters are both expecting their first little ones soon so things here on the baby-front are hopping! I'm retired from a government career but have worked a couple jobs since, part-time, just to have something to do. Not working presently. I'm a Christian who loves the Lord. Many years ago, I became convicted of the fact that---for me---overeating was a sin. Yet I did nothing about my way of life, eating what I wanted, how much I wanted, when I wanted. My health deteriorated, especially after I retired and became sedentary. By Dec of this past year I was pretty much a vegetable (potato!?), sitting around most of the day, doing the least I could to get by and keep my family from realizing just how much my excess weight was affecting me. I cooked the simplest, easiest meals I could so I was on my feet the least time possible. I could barely walk up and down steps and was out of breath with just the least physical activity. BUT GOD...He put the idea in my head once again that a certain food plan worked very well for me in the past, why not try again? Jan 5th, 2009...my cupboards were cleaned out of anything not on this food plan, my mind was ready, my menu made up, healthy groceries shopped for and ready to be prepared. I was ready!!! I was beginning what's been the most exciting ride of my life! That old sin-wedge between God and me is GONE! My heart is finally to please Him in my eating and just one week into doing this, a 4-yr old foot injury from a treadmill belt slipping was totally healed...just like that!! I'd lost only 5 lbs at the time yet God saw my heart change and out of His great love for me, that injury was healed! All four ortho specialists concurred---this was a matter that only surgery could correct. NOT!!! I'm walking on a healed foot and on cloud 9, both :) Today, (mid-July 09) I'm down 88 pounds and exercising daily, something I could not even begin to do in January. I still have a long way to go in wgt loss but my overall health is very much improved. My cholesterol numbers are down to normal, even a little below normal numbers after being high. My blood pressure is almost normal so I'm hoping to get off meds soon. My energy level is AMAZINGLY high and THAT is the biggest blessing ever! My moods are lighter, my attitude thankful, my self-confidence is higher and I'm just so grateful to get to share this with anyone who needs encouragement. If you have a long road ahead to get healthy...know this...you CAN do it. You can, you can, you can. I am, you can.

My Goals:
Goals...I never set goals before, knowing I'd not see them through to victory BUT TODAY, I'm setting goals. My goals are: 1. to keep an attitude of gratitude for this new way of life. 2. to reach goal size (14) slowly and steadily; not getting wrapped up in quick weight loss. 3. to do some type of physical activity daily 4. to not get wrapped up in me, me, me in a selfish way but to put myself first as I learn to live healthily. 5. to encourage at least one other person each day and share the freedom we can have from overeating. **REWARDS** Trying to learn to set small goals and rewards for reaching them. Will use areas that I struggle in in setting these goals to try and break unhealthy habits. And so... Nov 1, 2009 GOAL #1--Stay away from McDonald's sugar-free vanilla iced coffees :o) for one month REWARD #1--Buy myself a new pretty scarf I'll share whether or not I meet this goal this time next month! Believing I can.
My Program:
My program... 1. Daily set aside quiet time with God, to remember all I'm grateful for and thank Him for making this so do-able.. 2. Continue making wkly menus, knowing that being caught unprepared is NOT good and that variety is the key to enjoying my food plan. 3. Exercise daily--alternating walking days with handweight lifting days and using the recumbent bicycle daily. 4. Daily journal my foods, exercise, and what's going on in my life that affect my overall health. 5. Continue to research the science of foods, recipes, & physical activities, ever striving to make this new way of life last forever. 6. Come here and to my other online group and share with others, encouarge as many as I can.
