I am determined to fight the fight!

October, 2007-I am 45 and have slowly gained 20+ pounds in the last few years. I am thrilled to have the support of this website to enable me to regain my health. I have a wonderful husband and three lovely teenagers. I want to be healthy enough to enjoy them for years. I love to exercise, but also love to eat.

July 2008-It has taken me a little over 8 months, which seems like forever, but finally, I have lost almost 25 pounds and am ready now to start the hard part--keeping it off. I feel so much better, and have now moved out of the size 12's that were getting too tight, into size 8 blue jeans. I am loving it! I do a cardio workout every day, and upper body weights 3 times a week. I have taken up spinning class and my husband and I have been biking 15-20 miles on Sunday afternoons. The other days I do the elliptical machine or walk in the neighborhood (a very hilly 3 mile walk). This thing is, I have always exercised and worked out and still gained weight, because my eating was not in control. That is what sparkpeople has done for me. The food log has been the most helpful thing ever and I am so grateful for having it to keep me in reality about my food intake. I have started measuring portions, and am surprised by the amount of food that I ate, beyond what I was counting as a portion.

Now the real test begins--can I keep this up permanently and keep this weight off? I am going to give it my best effort and will be so happy for the accountability that this web site can offer.

My Program:
I am going to try to follow some of the menus on SP, but don't know if I can really do it. I hate drinking water, but am determined to try. I love to exercise, but need to get to the gym more to lift weights. I am going to weigh in on Saturdays.

Personal Information:
The most important thing in my life (yes, even mor important than my appearance) is my faith in God. I believe that all good things come from God and that it is through faith in Jesus that we gain eternal life. Secondly, my husband and three children are an amazing blessing in my life. I am also thankful for my career as an occupational therapist. I feel incredibly blessed!

What you accomplished is amazing since most of those who joined when you did gave up and quit. You loved yourself and wanted to be the best, so you WILL get to your goal.

What do you want for yourself this third year? emoticon

Two worthwhile books to read are:
SHRINK YOURSELF by Roger Gould, M.D. on not regaining pounds from stress,

AND: "The SOUTH BEACH DIET" by Arthur Agatston, M.D. on why after 40 it is difficult for us to lose with Insulin Resistance/Metabolic Syndrome. Dr. Agatston never started out to write a "diet" book, but wanted to help his patients not have heart attacks and diabetes.

Are you still doing the Trideltathon? I think I saw that it was next week, right? Is this your first triathalon? Let me know how you do. Maybe I'll be ready by next year. The half marathon went well, I finished in 3hr6min. Now I am trying to run a 5k. I may sign up for the Dogwood 5K, but I will be the last to finish. The goal would be to finish without walking.

HI! Yes, I am Walking the Half-marathon in the Knoxville event. I cannot run even 1 mile. And no way would I be seen in a swimsuit until I lose at least 50 lbs. The half gives me something to work towards so it keeps me exercising. After the half I will probably pick out a bike event to work towards. I would love to try for the metric century at the Tour de Blount, but it may be beyond my reach. If they have a 50 miler that would be perfect.

You will definitely make an improvement on your second race. It's a month away, so you have more time to train. Yay!! I did my 3rd race this past Saturday, a week after my 2nd one. I knocked off 40 more seconds. So from July 26th - Sep 6th I have made an almost 4 minute improvement! Keep up the good work -- YOU CAN DO IT!!
