Peace Rose - my fave rose, and a constant reminder of my Me-ma, who passed along her love of roses to me.

I'm going forward with hope - my goals don't have to be reached fast, just reached.

Beba Gets Healthy

Hi, I'm three months in, and going steady in this journey to healthiness. Though i've been on Sparkpeople for a while, I just really got active with the site in December of 2011. In March, my world fell apart, as we had to terminate an adoption we were pursuing when the young man (14yo) began displaying very dangerous behaviors and we could no longer ensure his safety or other family members. (There are no words to describe this situation adequately. If this is a road you're unfamiliar with, I ask for grace when you read that... and if you have questions, just ask. But know, this was THE hardest decision I've ever made in my life!!) This summer, I was sidelined with grief and depression. But I got diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and the dr put me on the Southbeach Diet. I'm LOVING it and loving the feeling of getting back in control of my life!!!
I live in Ft. Worth, Texas with my husband and our 17yro and our 11yo godsons. I'm constantly trying to find ways to increase our healthiness, and free me up to be the mom, the wife... and just the woman that I know I can be when I'm free of the health issues that accompany my weight battles. To me, my fight to get healthy encompasses so much more than just my weight... it's about finding health and balance in my life and relationships... it's eating right and limiting GI problems, it's about being active enough to enjoy my family, it's vital to focus on positive and truth based thinking and seeing myself as my God sees me.
Going through the grief process, I'd realized how much I've silenced myself and constantly taken steps back from the woman I am, and was made to be. I'm in the process of awakening from the cage I put myself in. I'm becoming stronger, and finding my voice... and becoming healthier in EVERY way.

My Goals:
My long term goal is 140lbs lost.

20lb lost = MET
25lb loss = in progress

5,000 steps per day
7hrs of sleep a night (I have to start somewhere)
workout 3xwkly at least

My Program:
My dr suggested Southbeach lifestyle, I LOVE how my body feels with this. :D
I work out at the YMCA three times per week, trying to get up to 5 times per week.

Personal Information:
I'm always looking for encouragement and community to help spur me on to reach my goals... especially when the journey seems like I have so far to go still. I love celebrating the small steps, and it helps me remember that change IS doable... just not fast. :D

Other Information:
In July, I got diagnosed with PCOS, instead of being devestating... it's been one of the best things for me. PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, effects how my body processes insullin, much like someone with diabetes, it also causes imbalances in several other systems creating complications with hormonal levels, digestive issues, etc.
Learning this, and understanding it's implecations has been liberating... because PCOS is reversable, especially wiht weight loss. I'm not getting healthy for PCOS, I'm getting healthy for ME.

Thank you for sharing your rewards idea with me. I think that's great that you know what you want for yourself on your journey. I am still on fastbreak goals too and in week one of my journey. I need to sit down when I have a day off and do the vision collage. emoticon
