Transforming Me into Me

I am in here somewhere drowning in all this fat. I had children and gained 55 pounds. I strived to take off the weight. Life got in the way. I no longer run because of injuries and I gained weight. I no longer do martial arts because of injuries and I gained weight. I no longer garden strenuously because of injuries and I gained weight. I no longer do crossfit because of injuries and I gained weight.

I no longer do crossfit because of injuries and I gained weight.
Enough! I want to find me again. My children are now old enough that I no longer feel guilty about leaving them while I go exercise. Sometimes they even join me! I have spent the past year becoming increasingly depressed as I watched my weight increase and my physical ability decline. I have lost my mother and my grandmother in 2011. I need to move on with my life. The hard part is figuring out who I am without them.

You asked if anyone uses a scale or marked containers, and I wanted to let you know that I do!

I have a nice food scale that's very simple. I can set it to zero with a plate on it, so I can measure how many ounces of meat or cheese or baked potato I'm having without setting the food right on the scale platform. I keep it in a cupboard when I'm not using it.

I use measuring cups every morning for my 1c cereal and 1c milk, and at dinner to measure rice or bulgur or pasta.

When I make a recipe with 4 or 6 servings, I put the extra servings in containers as I'm dishing up dinner, so I've divided the recipe before I sit down to eat.
