Im a 40 and-then-some mother of 3 diagnosed with Celiacs 18 months ago. I've done my best to adapt to my new lifestyle and come to grips with the fact that I don't burn calories like I used too. I have a theory that the reason I have gotten bigger rather than smaller is because gluten-free bread, pretzels, crackers etc. are extremely high in carbs. So while my calorie count has been low enough, it seems it's the type of carbs I am eating that are the enemy, or so I suspect. That's what led me ...

I have a theory that the reason I have gotten bigger rather than smaller is because gluten-free bread, pretzels, crackers etc. are extremely high in carbs. So while my calorie count has been low enough, it seems it's the type of carbs I am eating that are the enemy, or so I suspect. That's what led me to Spark. I am looking to be healthy, not a stick figure. So my goal is to lose 20 pounds. When you get to this stage, you have to choose between your face or your rear end. I would rather carry an extra 10 lbs so my face is fuller, than have no rear end, but look like a corpse. So 19 or 20 pounds should be good.

My Goals:
As much as I want to lose that weight, the most important thing is I want to feel better. Because I am a Celiac, I have given up the gluten and I never ever cheat. However, lately I find that I am always hungry and often have a headache and can't concentrate. I really think that gluten free is not nutritionally the healthiest diet, but I have no choice. So I have to try to figure out how to be the healthiest me I can be. So glad to have some nutritional support.

My Program:
I was pretty discouraged and was considering Atkins so I am glad to have come across this program that allows me enough carbs to feel satisfied and still lose weight. I am also working out 5 to 6 days a week. I do 40 to 45 minutes of cardio. Normally I use the treadmill at an incline and I also like the elliptical and bike. Then I strenght train for the other 15 minutes. Upper body 3 days a week, lower body the other 3. I think it's important to give your body a day to rest.

Other Information:
I love to read. It might sound nuts, but currently my favorite character is 11 year old sleuth Flavia De Luce. Read The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. That was my favorite so far. I am also addicted to Chocolate and I am being serious now. Can't go a day without a taste. I lost my mom not long ago to Alzheimers. My 2 oldest went off to college and my life has changed so much I am just trying to figure it all out. How did I get here and what do I do now?

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I just had my first physical in a while and physically I am A-1. I think it is just the accumulation of things that I have been ignoring that is getting me down. I am glad to see you have had some success in your weight loss journey. Hang in there it will happen.
