August 15, 2010:
I've struggled off and on with my weight ever since I was a teenager. In my 30's I really thought I had it beat. I was committed to regular exercise and proud of my low resting heart rate. Physically I felt so good!
Over the past 5 years I've really let my attention to diet and exercise wander. I've gone back to my carb-heavy ways and larger portion sizes. In July 2005 I got married and I felt beautiful- I had lost about 10 pounds in preparation for the wedding. Since then I've packed them right back on, plus another 15 or so.
My family has a very strong history of heart disease on my mother's side. My mom and her 6 siblings all have heart disease. All of them (except my mom) have had angioplasty or cardiac by-pass surgery. One of her brothers died of a heart attack. I developed high blood pressure about 8 or 9 years ago- even though at that time I was in very good physical condition and not overweight. It is controlled with medication but I know this extra weight and inactivity doesn't help!
I'm so disappointed in myself. Mostly because when I feel uncomfortable with my body I just don't enjoy life the way I should. I don't want to miss out on one more minute of enjoying life because of extra weight!! It's time to get in shape!

2011:
Lots happened in 2011. My dear aunt died in February and I had to take over for my mom as her POA and executor. I lost focus on my health but managed to avoid gaining too much weight back. My eating stayed pretty healthy but my portion sizes grew...and the treats a little too often. Couldn't stick with tracking very well...

February 2012:
I went back to wearing my larger jeans because my favourite pair was too tight. Finally decided I really have to take control of this before my weight gets right back up there again. I've put on 10 pounds since my lowest in 2010- it's been a slow climb, but I don't want to let it get back to 165 again (or higher!) I remember how bad that felt. I'm dedicated to tracking and my goals for 2012 are to hit my goal weight of 135 in 15 weeks (1 pound a week) and maintain my weight below 140 for the rest of the year. Looking forward to doing some fun outdoor fitness this spring and summer.

Eat at least 5 servings of fruit and veggies daily

Update goals every week

Personal Information:
I work full time as a telenurse (a telephone advice nurse) I work from home which is great in general, but bad for my health since I sit all day at my job!
Chairs kill!

I appreciate how you record your calories/fitness and allow us to see it. I've been thinking I needed to eat differently, but its scary, you know. Nice to see you eating and having GREAT success -- I want that too! One comment -- You might look at adding some strength training. I've been reading THE NEW RULES FOR LIFTING FOR WOMEN by Schuler -- learning lots. would love to know what you think--If you got time and are interested, check it out at the library. claire

Any plan will work...the key is the commitment we have to the plan. What works for one may not work for another...I totally agree. When we commit...we succeed.
