This was December 2007, and I've lost more weight since it was taken.
This is me at almost my top weight. I'm about 265 here, and I made it almost 280 at the highest.
This was me at not quite 30 years old. I could stand to lose a few pounds here, but wasn't too bad.
My name is Gail, and I am in my mid-40's. I've lost 70 pounds since June 2007, and my goal is to lose the other 75 pounds by my birthday next year.
I'm not in a hurry to lose the last 75; I'd rather lose it slowly and not ever gain it back! I've done way too much yo-yo dieting in my life and this time -- no more! I lost 40 pounds on NutriSystem, the other 30 by myself. Although a bit on the expensive side, NutriSystem was great for learning portion control. (When I opened my first box of food I thought, "The meals are so small!" Nope, it wasn't that the meals were small, it's that I had no idea what a portion really looked like!) At this point, I'm just trying to eat right overall. Sure, there are meals where I don't make the best choices, but they don't happen often. If I had to think of "dieting" with no breaks for the next year or so, I don't think I'd make it! Instead, I just make the right choices 90% of the time, and enjoy my 10% "cheats" (which are a whole lot smaller portions these days). My biggest problem at the moment is a bad case of sciatica that keeps me from exercising, other than some resistance band work. Walking, biking, dancing -- all are out of the question at the moment. However, I'm hoping that as I lose more weight the sciatica will get better and I can exercise more. Every day brings new challenges and rewards -- and sometimes even the challenges have their own rewards! I want to look great in a little black dress by my 48th birthday next year. Preferably a size 6 or 8. I want to be able to do things outdoors again without being embarrassed -- like anything involving shorts or a bathing suit!
I lost 40 of my 70 pounds in the last year through NutriSystem -- it was great for teaching portion control! Now that I know the kinds of foods I should and shouldn't be eating (not to mention knowing what a portion REALLY looks like) , I just plan on following a healthy diet. In a nutshell; plenty of lean and dairy protein; lots of raw or lightly steamed veggies; whole grains, fresh fruit, healthy fats...all with moderate portion sizes. :) Oh, and 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.
Married 16 years to the most wonderful man on earth! We have 3 furry four-legged "children" -- Misty, Blue and Rusty (cats). Misty is 19, Blue (her daughter) is 14 and Rusty is a young whippersnapper at 4. (In the photo of me at around 30, holding a cat -- that's Misty as a youngster at a cat show, where she took a ribbon.)
