BECOMING A HEALTHIER ME.

Hi! I'm Gin. I'm 35 years old. I've been a member of SP for a long time, and I am still up and down with my weight. My highest weight was 335 in 2007. I was on steroids for Ulcerative Colitis for many years. In 2008, I came off of steriods after I had surgery to have my colon removed and have an illeal pouch created. After surgery, I lost down to 272. I spent 2009 gaining back up to 325. I have been trying to lose weight off and on all of 2010 through 2012. I actually lost down to 243, but I ...

I actually lost down to 243, but I quickly gained 34 pounds once I was put back on steriods for chronic pouchitis. I am currently at 277. I am starting a FODMAP diet that is supposed to reduce the intake of foods that cause inflammation in IBS patients. I am also going to start counting calories and fat grams while I am having to track what I eat anyways so I can report what I eat and how I feel to my doctor. I am just hoping to become a healthier me all around.

Personal Information:
I grew up in northeast Alabama. I currently live in southern Wisconsin in a cute little village called New Glarus. I am married, and I do not have children. I want a child very much. I have a degree to teach elementary school which I did for five years in Alabama. I have not found a teaching job since moving to Wisconsin, so I work in the receiving office at Swiss Colony.

Other Information:
I had major surgery on April 4, 2008. I had ulcerative colitis which I had since I was 13. I had my colon removed to basically cure my condition. What is called a j pouch was created using my small intestines. I then had a temporary illeostomy while the pouch healed. I had hopefully my last surgery on March 30, 2009. I had the illeostomy taken down. I have had chronic inflammation of the pouch. I've been on steriods, antibiotics, pain medication, and more for it. I am going to try the FODMAP diet that has shown to reduce inflammation in the gut.

My hunny and I got engaged in Gatlinburg! I love it there, especially this time of year, its gorgeous!!!!!

We wanted to go back last month for a little trip (to celebrate our 5 yr anniversary since getting engaged!) but we couldn't afford it. Maybe we will be able to go for our wedding anniversary in june. We'll see!

Sounds like you are going to have a great time! Take lots of pics! And have someone take pics of you!!! One thing I noticed the other day when I was looking through the photo album is that I have a lot of great memories in there, lots of pics of the places I have been and lots of pics of the people I went to those places with... but hardly any pics of me being there and enjoying it. I don't really like having my pic taken most of the time, but I am sorry to not have myself in some of those memories.

I hope you have a ton of fun!!! Travel safe!!!!!!!

Howdy Virginia!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you are having a great week so far!!!

I love new glarus! Its such a cute little town! I have driven through there a few times. My husband actually went to school in platteville which isnt too far from there.

I live in Mukwonago. Its about 40 mins from downtown milwaukee.

Yeah, I dont know what it is about my fingers, I haven't ever had suckdry skin and I use lotion almost religiously, so I have no clue as to what is going on. I think I am going to invest in some better quality lotion and maybe some of those mittens you wear when you go to sleep! It makes me feel icky!

How are things going otherwise? I see you have a goal of 11 pounds fo rthe month, Rock it! You can do it and it will be amazing!!! : )

Thanks for the lovely comment on my SparkPage. It is still so strange for people to tell me I'm motivating as I still see myself as the unmotivated big girl you know?

I think you are setting yourself up for success by focusing on changing one or two small bad habits at a time. Take it one step at a time and gradually. It is all about a lifestyle change! And it is very smart of you to have changed your ticker to 12 lbs. That is how I've accomplished my last 50 lb. loss. I see it as 10 lb. weight loss blocks. I tackle one 10 lb. block at a time. Once I reach that, then I focus on the next one.

When you have as much weight to lose as I do, that's the only way to approach it and not get discouraged about the large, overall number in the end you know?

Keep up the great work, stay focused, and believe in yourself and your abilities! You can do this! You will do this!!!
