Traveling a bumpy road!

So much has happened to me since I started SP April 9th 2010. I've lost weight of course and regained some, I've learned to stop eating when full and I've made some great spark friends. I'm sparking much of the time. Many know about my son's accident (6/17/2010)and the changes that has wrought on my life, my sister Véronique's death (11/7/2012) due to a brain tumor and Vicky's congestive heart failure, diabetes and a host of other problems. I also have been blessed with a new grand-daughter ...

I also have been blessed with a new grand-daughter in May 2013 for a total of 5 grand-daughters and 1 grandson-the first and eldest of the grands..

I try to keep smiling and stay positive-not always easy, but the good Lord helps. I love life from infancy to old age.
I retired May 25th, 2012.
My 5 children and 6 grandchildren are an important part of my life.

With the exception of my cholesterol levels and a mobile blood pressure I am relatively healthy. Both my son's care and my weight contribute the occasionally elevated blood pressure. My cholesterol has been high since I was in my 40's and I am allergic to statin drugs which limits what I can take for the cholesterol problem. (I am in gray in the first picture, and turquoise in the second)

My Goals:
1. track all of my foods, striving to get 5-8 fruits & veggies per day.
2. I will walk no LESS THAN 5,000 steps and work my way past 10,000.
3. to be more positive, and supportive to those around me, especially new widows.

My Program:
To watch what I eat, most importantly cutting back on cholesterol and sodium. Work to change a sedentary life into a more active life, which is difficult for me. Even though retired, I'm knitting and sewing more that makes for a still sedentary life.

Personal Information:
I was born in Bedford, Ohio of a Belgian mom and an American GI. I have lived in Belgium, Ohio, Florida and am currently in Georgia. I am widowed and have five grown children, one of whom had a traumatic brain injury June 2010 and for whom I am the court appointed Custodial Guardian.

Other Information:
I like to knit, sew-when I have time and play with my grandchildren.
I'd love to be able to travel again, to go back to Belgium and Austria, to see Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.

I am more of a mow the yard, vegetable garden kind of person but I am determined not to let the landscaping get back into the shape it was in. Molly is a sweetheart. That is Amy in todays blog. She is Molly's big sister and a sweetheart too. We raised Amy till she was almost 8 so she holds a special place in our heart.
Hope you are having a great week.

I never gave it much thought, but if you can grow onions which you sure can down there, you should be able to grow chives. They can be invasive though as they spread like mad and since your growing season is longer, be careful where you think of putting them. A nice big pot right by the door so it's easy to snip some whenever you want them is a good idea. And you know when they go to flower, those pretty little purple blossems look and taste wonderful on a salad!

We're on a little vacay up in Canada of all places and it's zero out there this morning! I think I'm nuts!

My Mother used to say the only people who are truly content where they are, are the ones who have never lived anywhere else. She always longed for California where they lived during WWII. I have no desire to stay living in the desert. Steve's sister & B-I-l fee the same way. We are all here for his mom. When she is gone, if we are retired by then we will all be moving on to greener pastures. Pun intended. ;-)
Thank you for commenting on my blog. My daughter's family live on the coast of the Olympic Peninsula on Puget Sound in Washington State. That is a possible place for us to relocate. The cost of property and living there would be the only deterrent.
So glad to have you as my friend.

Thanks for your comment about my new profile picture. Even on a short run I'm carrying water etc like I'm about to set off across the desert.

GINIE, it seems only you got the idea I might be needing to go to NY in my Blog April 3. I am in touch with our eldest son and if he needs help I will be there for certain.
Our son here from Nevada got the call that his application is approved and he has an appointment in the morning. I will be happy to hear he will be working very soon. I cannot wait till he comes home to tell us what he will be doing. Thanks Ginie, we are still looking for a piano teacher. We had a sunny nice day but rain again tomorrow. I have seen my bulbs are growing so it feels good to see some thing going right now. HUGS and so much love. Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
