I've been Sparking for a few years now and I have had some great success with figuring out how to make myself healthy, but I'm coming into the 2015 Spring 5% Challenge a bit flabby from grad school stress. I have a whole closet full of clothes I would like to be able to wear again, not to mention getting my self-esteem back!

I've been Sparking for a few years now and I have had some great success with figuring out how to make myself healthy, but I'm coming into the 2015 Spring 5% Challenge a bit flabby from grad school stress. I have a whole closet full of clothes I would like to be able to wear again, not to mention getting my self-esteem back!

I began this journey by idly flipping through "Oh, The Places You'll Go". I realized that I was stuck in The Waiting Place. ("...waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.") At the time I was feeling a bit stuck in my job and my weight was creeping up courtesy of Messrs. Ben and Jerry. I decided then that I needed to kick myself into gear. No more waiting; I wanted to "find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing!"

Since joining SparkPeople I have learned oodles about health and wellness, and now I am working to get back down to my goal weight of 135 pounds. It's not easy to balance the persistent stress of a PhD program with being healthy but I am determined to make it work.

My Goals:
-Get down to a heart-healthy 130 lbs
-Run 1 mile without walking
-Complete a 5k
-End emotional overeating
-Wear an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini (bikini purchased...waiting for my body to catch up!)

My Program:
-Keep it paleo-ish - veggies, unprocessed meat, fish, fruit, and some seeds, nuts, and dairy.
-Log on to SP daily
-10,000 steps a day
-Daily stretching
-Strength training 2-3x/week
-Intense cardio 1x/week (running, swimming, or hiking)
-Sleep 7+ hours each night
-Blog/journal every day
-Have fun!

Personal Information:
I love to geek out, hang out with friends, do outdoorsy things, and read/watch various forms of escapist fiction. I'm halfway through a PhD program studying molecular microbiology and geology, and some of my favorite things are hiking, camping, reading, photography, juggling, ice skating, board- and video- games, self-sufficiency, my boyfriend (aww), my family, my cat, and being cheeky!

To me, Sparking is a way to fight idleness, get healthier, work on my moxie, and develop something that looks a lot like gumption.

Healthy feels so good!

YeAH WELCOME to being a DAWGGIE !! it's OFFICAL now that you have JOINED the TEAM !! WOOHOOO !!!

TY SO MUCHERS for filling out the VET Records !! I haven't checked,, but hope you have/or will fill out if you wish for a buddy,,, I LOVE having the extra encouragement ! WOOHOOOO !!!!! So I ALWAYS ask for one,,,, they also help me to stay ACCOUNTABLE !!! On a day I feel like eating EVERY THING (the cat hides on those days !) I can use someone to call upon ! Also make sure under the weigh in template,, you have copied/pasted this,, so you can weigh in on Saturday next week,, that's the "offical day" we start with reporting our exercising,,, and whatever the LTGL is,,, probably drinking up to 8 glasses of water. :) it'll be posted soon,, and Maryann (CL, Challenge Leader,, or Momma Dawggie !) will let us know as the time gets closer.

I've read ur page,, u are REMARKABLE !!! I forgot to look at ur ticket tracker,,,, to see how colse you are to ur goal,,,,, we will HAPPILY help you out with it !
