Why hello there! Pull up a stability ball, make yourself comfy, and let's have a little chat.

Here's the basics: I'm a twenty-nine year old science geek and these days I'm geeking out about fitness. SparkPeople lets me treat healthy living like a video game and I'm leveling up big time! Here's the basics: I'm a twenty-nine year old science geek and these days I'm geeking out about fitness. SparkPeople lets me treat healthy living like a video game and I'm leveling up big time! No more hiding behind body fat. I want to live life to the fullest, and being healthy is an absolute must for living well!

I found some success using the resources here on SparkPeople, but things didn't really click until I read Gary Taubes "Good Calories, Bad Calories" and then decided to try eating Paleo/Primal. It's made all the difference, and if you're visiting this page as someone having trouble meeting your own fitness goals I highly recommend reading up on it.

MY BACKSTORY

Back in 2010 I realized that my life is mine and mine alone, and that it's up to me to do whatever it takes to make it count. I had just started a fun new job doing Mad Science but I was borderline obese and completely sedentary. Ben and Jerry were my best buds and my weight was creeping up and up and up and up...

I was idly flipping through "Oh, The Places You'll Go" when I had my "Eureka!" moment. I realized that I was stuck in The Waiting Place. ("...waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.") I decided then that I needed to kick myself into gear. No more waiting; I wanted to "find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing"!

Fast forward to today and I've gone from a size 13 to a size 4. I've taken up jogging, upgraded to sprinting, discovered the wonderful world of paleo eating, rediscovered the joys of juggling, danced like no one's watching, picked things up and put them down, and finally become content with just being myself.

Now I'm in the final push to get down to my goal weight of 125 pounds, right in the middle of the healthy BMI zone for my 5'2 frame. I'm tackling some thyroid dysfunction issues, I am going to rejoin the dating world, and I'm heading back to school this fall to get my PhD. Yeah, science!

On that note, I bid you welcome to my little corner of the SparkPeople universe. Enjoy your stay!

Personal Information:
I love to geek out, hang out with friends, do outdoorsy stuff, read/watch sci-fi, escapist fiction, poetry, chick flicks, old movies, and musicals, and I love microbes, astronomy, libertarianism, photography, juggling, ice skating, hiking, camping, and being cheeky.

Since I joined SP I'm fighting idleness, getting healthier, working on my moxie, and you might say I'm developing something that looks a lot like gumption. Healthy feels so good!

That is so funny because I always hate my hair right after a cut! They never style it right. My curls always end up thin and crispy. But since I get it dyed I have to wait a little while before washing it. I only like it a few days later when I do it myself!

I've been pretty absent from Spark but I wanted to come by and catch up and see how moving is going and how excited you are about grad school. I caught up on all your blogs! Now what you have to do is stay healthy and be a role model for me so that when I go to grad school I know that I can keep up healthy habits :)
