A New Approach To a Healthier Me

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? (Quoted from Marianne Williamson)

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? (Quoted from Marianne Williamson)

My husband and I are planning to return to Hawaii next year, and I want to be slimmer and fitter for that trip. Going mostly vegan has made a huge difference in my over all health and greatly improved medical tests. I still eat wild fish, but I eat mostly legumes, nuts, vegetables, and fruit. I also try to stay away from caffeine.

In Kauai, my husband and I had a wonderful time cooking up wild mahi mahi and wild salmon, along with trying out fresh pineapple, papaya, mango, canteloupe, oranges, and other fruits from the island. That was the most fun either of us ever had cooking, and we looked forward to every meal. (For lunch, we would buy a veggie sub from Subway to split at the beach or other adventures.)

I now want to build on that by learning at least 20 new vegan recipes this month and creating my own personal cookbook. I am paying much more attention to my diet and trying to go organic whenever I can.

Fitness continues to be a major goal. I am continuing to build my fitness levels. My goal is to be able to run 7 miles by March 2010.

My Goals:
My goals include getting healthier and fitter. I have recently changed to a mostly meatless (except fish), dairy-free, caffeine-free, sugar free. I've begun learning to cook my own organic lentil and bean soups. I would like to drop four sizes in clothes by the end of the year.

My Program:
Treadmill for one hour per day, alternating high-low from 4.5 range down to 3.5. My goal is to get from 5.0 to 6.0. Add 30-60 minutes of ellyptical most days. Running 3 to 4 miles 3 times per week.

Strength training is Jari Love Extremely Ripped with two eight-pound weights.

Personal Information:
My husband and I both live in the city, and we love the convenience of it. I miss the ocean, as I grew up in Maine. We try to get to the ocean any chance we can get.

Other Information:
My husband and I plan to return to Hawaii next year. I am hoping to be in much better shape in order to hike ancient Hawaiian trails.

I also hope to return to St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands and to some day hike the Himalayas.

If you are holding onto the railing you are going too fast!!! You need to slow down a bit. The last thing you would want is to loose a little focus and fall down. When I first started running I was told to take it at a pace I could hold a conversation. You should be able to get out a few words, not talk in paragraphs. I want you to do this the right way. You want this to last and be long term, not fly by night!!

Thanks for the goodie!! Just please be careful with adding on additional mileage. The rule of thumb is no more than 10% each week for three weeks, then you recover by reducing your mileage in half for the 4th week. Doubling your distance is not a good thing to do for your body! You will end up injured. If you run 10 miles a week, the next week you can run 11 total. I am so happy you love your new shoes, just be careful!!
