Imagine how things could be ... then work to make it a reality

I've been on Spark for a while now ... however, in the past 1 - 1/2 years I have been gone. A back injury basically kept me from doing any real exercise ... but time to change that. I gained back about 10 of the 17 pounds I lost. Not to worry though, I just need to get back on track ... here we go woo woo.

Now that I got the touchy-feely stuffs out of the way....I'm Greg.

I live in that other place. "Other" place??? Well...I mean near Portland. Not Portland, ...

Uhhh...not D.C....the other Washington...the state I mean. And while we're at it....let's toss in Vancouver. No, no...not Vancouver BC...the other Vancouver! Seeee...that "other" place.

Head lamps are good - not just for seeing where you're going, but so others can see you! I hate it when someone comes at me seemingly out of nowhere. I get up at 6, so it's barely light, but only for another week or two I think. :-P

Thanks for checking up on me. I'm okay ~ that's pretty non-committal, but things are not bad, nor are they spectacular. I think I'm bummed because I haven't been able to exercise much.

I over-booked myself. My church's Outreach agreed to sponsor a team for CFF's Cycle for Life. That meant in addition to fundraising for my ride - and thank you, again, for your donation - I was trying to recruit riders and donors. The weekend before the ride I did the tri on Whidbey Island. The Hubs is still working a lot - in fact, he spent the last week of August in Butte, MT (an 8-hour drive from here).

We traditionally camp with a long-time friend on Labor Day weekend. Well, that requires planning, especially when my tentmate is two states away. And it's late summer, so the garden is going crazy.

I just can't keep up with household chores and yard work. I'm headed to training for the next few days. The Hubs and I are planning to meet Friday night, camp, and then head into the hills for an overnight hiking trip. The Hubs and I used to be avid backpackers. He slowed down a lot after donating a kidney fifteen years ago. We took our first backpacking trip together two years ago. So I'm so out of practice, packing everything for this weekend's trip has been more stressful than it should be.

I need a workout. I'm hoping to use the hotel's fitness center, or pool, or go for a few long walks while I'm in Leavenworth. I can't run. Because we're leaving our cars unattended overnight, I'm not taking the bike with me, so I won't get a ride in.

I wasn't feeling very good Monday or yesterday. I might have a sickness developing. Maybe I'm just going into my winter slowdown early. That would be kind of cool, because I plan to start running again in the new year. (My foot damned well better be healed by then!)

I answered on my blog, but just in case you don't see, I'll copy it here too! :) And thanks for taking a moment to comment on my blog!

Speed work is basically High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). So, you can "fartlek"... seriously... that's a thing, or general speed work.

Farlek helps build lung capacity, during your run you add a burst of speed every few minutes.

Speed work is generally on a track (flat surface) and you basically alternate slow and fast laps around the track.
