Round 2, Fight!

So I lost 125 lbs over the course of a bit more than a year. Over the course of the last year or so I have gained back all but 20 lbs of it.
*le sigh*

To lose the weight I counted calories and exercised 6 days a week. As I approached my goal I wanted to find a more sustainable lifestyle. I failed. When I tried to relax my control and stop counting every calorie I ended up bingeing.

So I lost 125 lbs over the course of a bit more than a year. Over the course of the last year or so I have gained back all but 20 lbs of it.

To lose the weight I counted calories and exercised 6 days a week. As I approached my goal I wanted to find a more sustainable lifestyle. I failed. When I tried to relax my control and stop counting every calorie I ended up bingeing.

I went to therapy for the binge eating and am still going to a body wellness group therapy class that I find very helpful. Setting aside time to think about and appreciate the many stresses this world puts on our appearance and how that makes us feel. Knowing there are other people out there struggling with the same feelings.

I have struggled trying to find some middle ground way to find balance and have managed to gain back 100 lbs. I feel all the things that I rejoiced to get rid of coming back. The tiredness, unhappiness, heartburn, tendonitis in my hands. I have been wanting to get back on track, but not enough to chose not to get pizza and cookies, until now.

October 11, 2013 has marked my turning point. My BF thought I may have lost the weight too quickly last time and he may be right. I am starting back to tracking my food and counting my calories, but I am not going to obsess over it like I did before. I am allowing myself to relax and go over a bit on the weekends so I don't feel excluded from social gatherings. If I aim for a 1000 calorie deficit on weekdays and relax a bit on the weekends I should be able to balance out at a 1 lb weightloss per week which may be healthier for me. If I don't need to indulge on the weekend then maybe it will go a bit faster, but I am not going to pressure myself for it to do so.

I am confident that I can do this since I have done it before after all :) I feel the determination and commitment I felt before and that have been lacking over these past months. I am excited for what the future holds and for the journey I am starting again. I am not starting over completely and that is giving me a positive place to work from. I have a lot of knowledge already about what I need to do and what works for me, but I am still going to take it slowly introducing things. I am not going to go from 0 workout days to 6 a week overnight. I know this. I also know that I can do it again if I want to and I look forward to how great it felt being on a healthier path. I already am beginning to have that warm feeling even if it has only been a few days and it will only get better.

Thanks! That is exactly where I am now. I have done so well for a year and lost a ton, but now I am looking for a way to make it more sustainable. Something that preferably doesn't require me to count calories for the rest of my life and doesn't involve binges. I have been going up in weight a bit now but I am trying to keep that in perspective of finding the right permanent healthy lifestyle for me :)

You've done marvelously well. Just make sure you have some outs if the effort starts seeming like too much. We're here for the long haul. It's more imortant what we're doing 2-5 years after we start than what we do in the first six months. I'm proud to be walking with you.
